I originally bid and bought a 7290 from ebay that was advertised as unlocked. It arrived locked to Cingular. It would have been nice to just unlock it rather than hassle and wait for a refund. I still lost out on shipping...

Yeah I like to just created things that are useful. I been thinking alot lately and I was thinking maybe I could intergrade the blackberry software with like a mini linux but still have all the options that bb software has. but with the linux os too this could possible fix the bluetooth issues. Unlocking generator is so close to finishing. Just need to figure out the last 4. I will probably have the generator posted up on a webpage or someone who willing to host it. thanks for your support.

i'm curious as to how you perceive the linux OS with working functionality. are you planning on trying to port the java OS to some linux dist (which i'm assuming you do not have the actual source code for - or, at best, some half-botched reverse engineered version)...? i won't pretend i know a lot about porting OS's, but i do know a bit about cracking (although not a lot to be useful outside of what i learned for).

Yes, I think Linux development would be a benefit. I have a 7290, so I can't help on the 7100t front. I could help on the 7290 though.

As mentioned by someone else in this thread, the push mail connectivity would most likely be your biggest obstacle.

But heck, for all we know, the RIM patents might give some good insight into the process. I've not looked at them.

But hay, 1 project at a time MIT super genius.

Don't misunderstand me truely4, it must be fun cracking codes, but than again, how helpfull is it..........
KweetNiet,

truely04,

Snaps to you. I plan to visit Italy and Czech. Republic. I need my Cingular 7290 unlocked and $200 for the Bongo process is less then thrilling. Cingular doesn't have a 3 month window, and I've called to do it through Cust. Suppt. They said I'd have to wait for my contract to end in 3 yrs., and then still rub a lamp.

thanks for the support... 2 more numbers left and then I'll have someone host the file up for me. I don't know about the 7290 and if the unlocking genarator will work for it. But if the it does then It would be hitting 2 birds with one stone. Just for everyone to know... I only created these programs to make life easier and I remember I'm not getting paid for this even those I'm pretty sure I can make alot off the program but i'm a nice guy. so it's gonna be a freeware and if anyone charges anyone to unlock the bb with my software please infrom me. thanks only a couple of numbers left and the 7100x series will be unlock. thanks for the time and space and support.

If you can generate 9 of the 16 numbers required for the 7100t then you should be able to generate the code for the 7100r as they only use 8 digits.

This is a place where we help us eachother, so if you don't plan to help out in any way, why are you here ? I think it's great that there will be alternatives to Bongo and it doesn't cost $100 to unlock that's way over priced. So if you plan to stay here help out as much as you can.

Thanks

I apologize if I have offended you, my intention in my last post was not sarcasim but some help towards the programmer. If you feel I should stay out of this topic I will indeed but unlocking is my bread and butter and feel justified charging $100.00 for my investment. Thanks.

I'm aware your fee is $100, but the PROCESS will cost a consumer ~$200.

$5.00 - Packaging
$18.25 - Global Express Mail (EMS) @ 2 pounds (per USPS online tool)
$2.00 - USPS Insurance, value of $300

$100.00 - Bongo Unlock Fee
$20.00 - Standard Return Shipping
$26.95 - Extra for C.P. PuroPak Shipping (1 business days) ($41.95)
$21.00 - 7% of declared value of $300 USD for Canadian Customs

$193.20 - Total

Keep in mind these are my estimates. I think actual shipping will be a little more, thus my statement of $200.

Kevin is correct. His fee is $100. I believe the process costs the average person, who wants the unlock done in ~1 week, (thus the extra shipping), is ~$200.

Special thanks to Kevin, cause I still might need to use him in the end. His service is great. Too bad he can't master the remote unlock. That would really give him ALOT of business.

to be frank, if this tool ever does see the light of day (let's assume for a minute that this person is telling the truth), i do hope you whom are offering to host this tool realizes that it is illegal and you will likely be contacted by RIM's legal representatives within a few hours.

and to be ever more frank, if this person knew what he was doing, it wouldn't take him this long to create a keygen for this. hell, i've got friends who have cracked much more complicated algorithms for protection in much, MUCH less time... my personal opinion (and i could be wrong) is that this is nothing more than a bunch of false hope and a way to get two seconds of unfashionable glory from those who will take the bait.

post some source code from what you're working on and i'll believe it a little moreso, but until then...

I will admit shipping can be costly, any Canadian that has shipped an item to the US can tell you that it it is more expensive to ship to the US than to Canada from the US. We do not make money from shipping, in fact if the customer sends their BB with box and all accessories we loose a few dollars. $20.00 covers Xpress post, (which is a faster shipping method that includes insurance and tracking number), shipping materials and our time to drive to and from our local post office. If we use FedEx on our own account, it would be $45.00USD so we don't use it unless requested. It sounds like a lot but it is the cheapest but safest way to send back to the USA. 70% of BB sent to us are corporate customers who frankly don't care about the costs and usually send us their companies courier account number which we prefer. It's the regular Joe who has typically has a beef with our prices.

I apologize to get off topic and will get back on it.

I personally do not think there is a IMEI code generator for BB and do not think that RIM uses one but rather just random but I could be dead wrong so don't quote me on that. This is why I shared the information to the programmer in this thread about the 7100r being only 8 digit unlock code because if he can generate 9 digits then he should be able to do it. As far a legality issues, I have never seen any from RIM. I have been unlocking 1.5 years RIM products and have not even so much as seen a letter from them. I do know that RIM knows 100% what I do, I say this because I have had RIM employees come to my location to unlock their own BB. The whole company knows and does not care, (or if they do they have not showed it as I am most likely just too small to make an impact), strange maybe but true. Keep in mind that RIM is a Canadian company and I am also in Canada so if there were any laws passed it would affect me. Simply put, unlocking phones in Canada is not illegal and not an issue........yet.

The algorithm is more complicated in BB than you may think, I have seen more difficult.....Tungsten W being one of them. If BB were easy to unlock I would not be the only one with the solution for this length of time but this will change soon. The reason I have been so frank with this subject so far is because we know that we will not be exclusive with this soltuoin for much longer. Other developers are only months away from a solution. As far as a remote solution....we were able to make it from day one but as any programmer out there knows why we didn't opt for this service.

I can tell you one thing though. When software does get released for the BB there will be no free solution, (at least for some time anyway), but at least with more competition it will drive the pricing down for all to afford. Or perhaps some genious for fun figures out the code and decides to post free software then it's all over for BB for guys like me....this is just how it is, hasn't been the first time and it certainly won't be the last.

in the uk.. there are countless companies unlocking blackberries... i'll post links later today.. some do it remotely, so you do not have to send it the blackberry itself.

This is not to take away from the poster.. i love the fact he is doing it for free... but i know you can unlock the 7100v for something like 30 bucks... i'll run through my favorites on my other computer.

Yes this is true but in the UK they can only unlock BB's from UK/Euro providers. Some here too remote, like T-Mobile and Cingular but no one in the world can get a code for an AT&T BB. I don't know why AT&T or so adament on not giving out codes, they were like that even when they were on their own.
