Default UK phone in Canada

Please Login to Remove!

I have a unlocked phone from the uk.

My provider is Rogers. Can I change the OS so that it is a Rogers phone?

Do you mean the branding on the housing of the phone? Yes, you can purchase and replace the housing. Do you mean can you load the Rogers OS on the phone, sure can! Can you change the startup splash screen, not legally.

the phone is unlocked and purchased in the uk. I live here in Canada so there is no warranty. I'm talking about the software and the startup splash screen.

You can load any carrier's OS onto your Bold (I presume that's what you have from your signature). It will not change the splash screen.

There's illegal software to do that. It can and will not be discussed on this forum. If you don't know how to use it, or what you're doing, there's a very good chance you could brick your device. That's as much as I am going to say about it.

The operating system software, you can. here is a link to get you started:

How do I upgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

Updating the OS will not change the splash screen however. As jsconyers stated, the tools to do this are proprietary and not legal for public use.

thanks

I did not realize that this is illegal. I will not do it. I amused that since the provider gave me the unlock code they no longer had claim to the phone and I could do what I wanted to it.

That is correct. You own the device, but the software to change items such as the splash screen is not legal to distribute.

The beauty of BlackBerry is that once it is unlocked, you don't need to change anything else to use it on another carrier. Having a Vodafone or T-Mobile logo won't affect the device's operation.
