Not sure if anyone else saw this but Sling is finally releasing an open beta version of their software for the bold on Dec. 30th. I have been waiting for this for a long time. The details are on the slingmedia site.

I can't imagine this works on EDGE. It's a little choppy on 3G, and works really great on WIFI.

There is no support for CDMA in the initial release. Sprint, Verizon, Telus & Bell will have to wait a bit longer.

EDGE is not officially supported. However, depending on how strong your EDGE signal is, you might be able to get a decent amount of streaming with some newer devices. Keep the audio at low mono to reduce bandwidth requirements.

Happy streaming.

Kaiso - Are you seeing any choppy frames, or is it perfect? Are you using WIFI or 3G?

Works great on my Bold. No choppy frames using WiFi or 3G. Only issue I'm having is there's a loud popping sound on my headphones after I control the slingbox.

I have used Sling Mobile on Verizon CDMA network (XV6600 - WM 6.0) - works great...TMO EDGE (Dash - WM 6.0) - although EDGE wasn't able to stream it - it worked good when on WIFI. Regarding the Bold - I downloaded it, but I need to allow remote connection from router....hopefully I'll be up and streaming later....

It's working awesome for me as well. One issue I am having is with the "Connection Method" setting. By default it says WiFi Preferred. When I leave it like that it can't connect (could be an issue w/ my wifi network at home although the wifi icon is white and the browser works fine). If I switch it to Mobile Preferred it works totally fine. Very impressed w/ the quality over 3G (I have full bars in my apartment). So not sure I even need Wifi, but you would think that the Wifi Preferred would try Wifi and if that didn't work would try the mobile network. There is a separate option for Wifi only.

Anyway, curious if others have noticed similar behavior.

BTW, setting up your mobile favorites through your PC makes life much easier. I picked all the SD versions of the channels I like and they show up w/ logo for each channel changing.

Awesome product.

It really is fantastic. I am using mine with just the 3G network and it is a decent stream quality. The audio and video gets slightly out of sync at times but it really does not bother me.

In 3G does it work over BIS or it needs to have configured my carrier APN settings to work.

I asked on the slingcommunity forum, and the answer came back that the communication is limited to TCP only (something to the effect that they are not allowed to use BIS/BES).

Wirelessly posted

Thanks jeff; looks like I'm out of luck since my carrier offers me unlimited data plan but only trough BIS. If I use TCP they charge me for every Kb I use :(
