My Pearl has been frequently crashing. I deleted the log file but it hasn't helped. So is it worth reinstalling the device software?

I found some tutorials on how to do this, and they all start with saying that I need to locate the software for my device. I can see the list here: BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites

But I don't know which carrier my Pearl originated on. There are no carrier logos and I bought it second hand.

Should I use any carriers software?

As your profile doesn't indicate which Pearl you have (as 8820 is not a Pearl).

See the top of the forum for the recent operating system and step-by-step instructions on how to download and install. You do not need to download any specific carrier's os as long as it is compatible with your device and service network.

You can use any OS for your specific device. For example, you cannot install an OS for an 8120 on an 8100.

Thanks. Mine is a 9105. I therefore followed the instructions given here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilangauge.html

However, it doesn't seem that the loader.exe gave me the option to wipe the handset and reinstall. It just asked me which apps I wanted to update/delete. If there a "how to" which says how to totally wipe the handset and reinstall the device software?

You might have the latest version for your device.

It keeps on crashing and needs to be rebooted or I have to wait 60 seconds for it to response. If you have any other suggestions for what to try before I wipe it I'd be very glad to hear.

I cleared the log file. I will try disabling the RAM optimiser.
