Default COnsidering a Blackberry- Need more info!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys, I currently have a Samsung Intercept with Android 2.2 from Virgin Mobile. I really dont like it and considering getting a Blackberry Curve 8530 through them. Is that a good phone? I see it is about 2 1/2 years old which isn't too bad. The screen on it and the features look alot like my friends Bold so it should be OK> What are your guys opinions of this phone? Thanks, John

Welcome to the forums.

It is an entry level BlackBerry device and an older model as you have mentioned. What didn't you like about Android, the BB may or may not fill that void. Let us know what you're looking for in a device and we could better assist you.

The Android has alot of lagging on my opinion, and I'm just not happy with the Touch screen. I don't do alot of apps other than occasional Twitter/Facebook and maybe a few games if I'm bored. Is it really outdated or is it simply just not as new as the others?

It is really outdated. It is three generations back in the most entry-level family of BlackBerry devices.

The 8530 would be considered by most people to be outdated.

If you want an older phone, I would go with the Bold 9000. There are, of course, much newer and much better phones available.

From what you've stated, the BB may be for you. As for the lagging, you may get that with the BB if you don't keep an eye on the free memory. You won't have to worry about the touchscreen. BB doesn't have a lot of apps, but there are FB and Twitter apps, as well as a few games. Don't load too many apps onto the device as you will see the memory leak quickly.

Also, invest in a memory card, you will need it to story media such as pictures, videos, music, etc. That way it won't be stored on the internal memory.

I wouldn't say it is terribly outdated. It could possibly suit your needs. However, I think the most recent OS for it is 5.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was looking at the 8530 because I wanted to stay with Virgin Mobile but I will look around to see if there is another good deal out there

I am fairly certain that Virgin Mobile has newer phones available than the Blackberry 8530?

In the US they do not. They use Sprint's CDMA network. You guys are lucky up there in CA that your CDMA carriers converted to HSPA before going LTE.
