Default Headphone jack problem ever since upgrade to 4.5.0.66, and Hotmail not pushing, still

Please Login to Remove!

Recently been using 4.5.0.66 on my VZW Curve 8330...does anyone else have a problem in this OS with headphones? Ever since I upgraded to this newest 4.5 (and also coincidentally opened up my phone to clean dust under the screen, not sure if it has to do with this problem or not), when I plug headphones in the phone's jack, nothing happens, the sound keeps coming from the handset or speakerphone only. If I put the headphones on while plugging them in, I can hear the quick little static sound of plugging the cord in through the earpieces, but still the playing music does not switch to the headphones at all. Looking inside the jack, nothing looks out of place and I fiddled around with the headphone plug in the jack a bunch of times with no luck of any sound even for a second. Also, when I opened my device to clean the screen inside, I did not touch anything related to the headphone jack assembly and did not damage anything that I know of, so I don't see how that would've affected anything. Any ideas?

ALSO, don't know if anyone saw my posts in the Network outages in the thread called "BIS outage 8/8/08," but I am having an ongoing problem with Hotmail as my mails are not being pushed to my device. This has been going on for 2-3 days now. Gmail works fine. I am receiving mails in my actual Hotmail inbox but they do not push to my BlackBerry. Any input on this? I haven't seen an outage anywhere in the U.S. for this long of a period ever. I am in CT btw. Thanks.

57 views and no help? Please help me with any info you have, I haven't figured either problem out yet.

It seems now that I am getting some e-mails pushed from Hotmail but they are taking several minutes instead of being pushed instantly like they used to since the BIS upgrade a few weeks ago. I feel like I am the only one with a problem here though as no one is posting in that BIS 8/8/08 outage thread, and if it was widespread in an area like where I live and others, it would be discussed more.
Also, headphone jack is still not functioning at all and I am so stumped as to why.

Is the problem with your headphones occuring when you are using the media player?

During anything, a YouTube video, trying to play an mp3 through the music player...it doesn't seem to output sound at all. It worked just fine the last time I used it not too long ago. As far as I know, no sound will come out of them (yes I tried more than one working set of headphones) no matter what I try to play on the phone.

Tried a battery pull or reset?

Have you tried it with the original headphones that came with the phone?

I've had a few incidents where the program "hiccuped" and continued to play sound through the phone instead of thru my headphones. Usually pulling the plug out and reinserting corrected the problem.

I did several battery pulls, resets, etc. Tried it with two different sets of 100% working headphones that both used to work just fine on this same phone. I tried fiddling with the headphone plug and moving it around in the jack and nothing worked. I also tried switching from handset sound to speakerphone sound, and nothing.
I don't see how anything could have happened and it was woking just fine before!!

Could it be my update to 4.5.0.66 OS??? I don't remember using the headphones after the update until I found this problem so maybe something with the software??

It's possible that the problem is related to the update in the OS. You could always try to downgrade and see if the problem goes away. But I haven't come across a problem similar to yours on the forum.

Lol that sucks to hear, I'd hate to downgrade; it takes so long to downgrade and then to upgrade again (if it doesn't solve the problem).
When I opened the case of the phone to clean the screen, I don't remember accidentally jabbing anything or breaking/ripping anything and I barely worked in that area of the phone where the headphone jack is anyway. Ugh so frustrating. I'll contemplate testing with a downgrade but not just yet in case anyone else chimes in...
Thanks so far sir.

Best of luck. I know such a problem can be frustrating. I doubt it's related to when you were cleaning it. If anything I think it's the upgrade. But that's just a wild guess. Was the upgrade designed for your device?

Yep, it's the same beta other 8330 CDMA users have been installing. Not only is this bugging me but my main problem above about Hotmail mail not pushing correctly is even worse. It's been over 3 days now and the problem is not corrected for me. (Also noted here in the outage forum: http://www.blackberryforums.com/netw...ml#post1052669)
If anyone has info that may help me with either problem, please read through this thread and the one I just pasted above and please get back to me!! I appreciate it!

I, too, have been having a problem for the past couple days with e-mails not being pushed to my device. I see you're in CT; I'm in NH so maybe there's a regional network issue?

I have two Hotmail accounts setup on my BB. One of them is very sporadic about not only when but what messages it wants to push through. The other is a unique account that only two people have the address for so I don't get a lot of mail. I received one message on that account yesterday morning and I received the message on my phone literally six hours later!

:(

Yeah my messages get pushed 10-20 minutes later if at all. I don't get why this isn't still happening to more people and why more people aren't discussing it...if it's affecting you, me, and ajstan99 over in the outage thread: http://www.blackberryforums.com/netw...ml#post1052669

Yes, I've had the same issues with Hotmail the last few days (since Friday). I haven't had a chance to check the boards until just now though. I thought it was just me!

Jeez okay so it's more widespread that I thought. Anyone else have a say in this? Can/did someone call their service provider yet? I'm at work and can't right now but if someone else can to figure this out...
It's been 3-4 days now, you'd think this would be taken care of by now.

I don't think that outage 8/8/08 thread should be closed JSanders..as you can see some of us are still experiencing the same exact "outage" since Friday. It is not resolved yet.

Chances are the problems you are seeing with Hotmail are with Hotmail and not BIS. Hotmail has always been a problem child when it comes to working on non-Windows Mobile devices (and even on Windows Mobile devices in some cases).

Generally you get what you pay for since Hotmail is free to sign up and use. If you're paying Hotmail for the better service and it's still not working for you, call Hotmail and complain.

If it is not just your Hotmail email account that is having problems, call your carrier and complain.

I think it's slowly recovering...now the time between messages received and when they are pushed to my BB is only a few minutes at most...hopefully it will change back to instantly soon! Anyone else's Hotmail push time improving?

Actually, I just logged on to come and tell you that my Hotmail is now nearly instantaneous. I'm using MySpace at the moment and, each time my ladyfriend sends me a message, I'm getting the notification e-mail almost immediately.

(Which reminds me, I think I need to turn those notifications off now that hotmail is being sent to my BB; that could get old real quick. )
