Default How to turn off email while traveling

Please Login to Remove!

I'm going to be traveling out of the country and my husband says that anytime I get an email I will be charged roaming fees. I want to bring my blackberry because I have my calendar and other functions on it, but how do I get it to stop receiving emails? Its Verizon and an 8830. Thanks.

He is correct.

Manage Connections > Mobile Network = OFF.

I need to add:

Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options > Data Services = OFF.

Sorry--the first method will turn off the network completely and you do want the phone to work. The second method will disable data only, leaving the phone available.

Why not just enable the firewall and disable BIS traffic instead

I probably know the answer to this already but is there any "auto on and off" ability for this? I seem to remember a thread from a long time ago where someone wanted to be able to do this for the weekends. I would love to not receive emails on my BB over the weekend and of course an "auto" feature for this would be way cool ;).

Question Disable email when roaming

Just converted to BB, however having been stung by a £400 mobile data charge last year when in Spain for a couple of days I don't want the same thing to happen when I go to Paris this weekend. Unable to discover how to stop the data service I have just been told by T-mobile (UK) that this is impossible. Only they can remove the BB service from the account and then re-instate it when I get back. They say that if I just stop forwarding email etc the BB will keep attempting to establish a data connection and that is what I'll get charged for!!

Is this true???

no if you turn off the data under options> mobile network> data services "off" then only the phone and SMS will work, you wont get any PINs, BB messenger messages, or emails... nothing data related

My Curve has 3 options actually: On, Off, Off when roaming. The third one sounds like what the OP wanted.

Nope. I don't know if there's a 3rd party app to do this.

Thanks, looking at this site I discovered there is a 'data services off when roaming' option, I've selected it so will test it out this weekend. Just astonished that T-mobile didn't seem to know about this and expected me to call them and hang on the phone for 30 minutes to get them to do this for me........
