I occasionally swap my iphone microSIM into my Torch by using a SIM adapter, but stupidly slid the adapter into the 9800's metal holder without the microsim in place (just the empty tray adapter with a big "hole" in the middle where the chip goes)

Long story short, the empty tray hooked the one-way metal contacts on its way in, and the only way to remove the tray is to pull...hard, which severely damages/detroys the little metal contacts in there. Now the phone just says "Insert SIM Card" :(

Appears that there is no way to replace this part of the phone chassis, looks like it's a completely integrated component.

I guess I'll bring it to Rogers and play dumb...!

One of my users did the exact same thing. The empty SIM adapter can't be removed without damaging the pins.
We ended up needing to replace the entire device.

Ya thanks, that's what I figured ! Will see if Rogers plays along, or at least offers me a refurb at a reasonable rate.

One of the users here uses a micro sim in his BB without the adpter. He finds there is enough pressure that the usim doesn't mover around. So when Rogers, being understanding and helpful, replaces the device maybe try doing without the adapter.
