That's only for T-Mobile, and it's a third party messaging software called "Oz".
It's not as good as third party messengers though...

It said in the first article that the IM client would be available to existing OS installs. The second article seems to imply it will be limited.
Would be nice to pick up the feature.

If they manage to put out a decent AIM,Yahoo product, I think verichat and IMmessenger and the other IM products, could be hurting. Free vs. 40 a year or 50 upfront. And you know that if AIM is doing it, MSN wont be far behind, with AIM Yahoo and MSN, there is no real need for the other guys. Sorry Verichat.

how about a trillian for the berrys. I love trillian for my computer and would love to see it.
or maybe an open source program that does the same. Free is much better than 40 or 50 buck...

If RIM instant messaging is going to be similiar to the 7100t client, then third party clients such as VeriChat and WebMessenger will still be at least 10 times better because of the reasons in here:

VeriChat is more or less the Trillian of BlackBerries however unlike Trillian they want to charge you $30/yr on top of the $35 up front. You end up paying $30/yr to use the IM services that are being provided for free by AOL, Yahoo, MSN, etc. You can also argue that unlike Trillian the VeriChat client is still very buggy. I think that a lot of people have jumped on VeriChat being the greatest thing for BlackBerry IMing but that doesn't make it a great IM client or a great value. In comparison I just switched from a Microsoft SmartPhone and had the Agile Messenger client running on it. Not only was the Agile Messenger client more reliable that even VeriChat but the service and the client were free! |

I was able to run Verichat for 75 hours nonstop on one battery charge -- but then again I was using BES...
VeriChat reliability sure does vary a lot from carrier to carrier. There is definitely room for improvement. There are some bugs in it I'd like to see fixed, hopefully in the new single-socket version which they are taking longer than expected to release...
No doubt, RIM will want to make their version reliable -- if it is created by them.

Coming from a sk2, I'm interested in the performance of Verichat. I'm also eager for RIM to finalize the download of AIM directly onto the BB7520! |

Someone posting about the 7290 in the Rumor Mill thread group posted this URL to the 7290 software:

what are the chances this im app may work on 7250s? i'm tempted to give it a dance, but don't want to go through unnecessary restores if it's a waste of time.. anyone plunge into this one? |

I like instant messaging with Verichat, have had very little problems to-date. I do agree with the cost concerns, I don't like having to pay for a service that is free of charge on a different piece of technology (personal computer).

I took a look at the .alx file included with T-Mobile's download. It's the Oz Communicator which sends/receives via SMS
