I am havinf less than 24 hours of battery life on my 7520. I have checked my backlight setting and all others that might change battery efficiency. I have anextended life battery and it last well over two days. Does anyone else have issues with the standard batery?

You pretty much have to charge it every night with the standard battery. Heavy users that start the insanity at 8AM report the phone is toast by 10PM with a standard battery.

Today I've barely used it: Took one brief call, several e-mails, no backlight usage and I'm at 77%.

I second that. I would hardly call myself a heavy user, but I find that at the end of the day, I'm usually only left with two or three bars of battery.

I do not know about you guys, but battery life is next to useless on a phone to me. Unless it is like 2 hours or something ridiculous like that, of course.

I always charge my phone every night -- have been for years. As a result of that, I never have any battery issues.

Well the problem with the 7520 is when I would have "heavy" of both voice and email (which you have to assume people will, come on this is a corporate tool basically) I would be worried if i wasnt near my home charger or my car that my phone would die on me. I hate that kind of insecurity, one of the many reason i swtiched to the 7100g, now i can go 2 days without worries.

The Nextel Blackberries are known to have the least battery life. I talked with my rep on it and he told me that it is because they are always connected to the Nextel network. Other Blackberries go into a sleep mode and wake up every so often to check for anything new. Nextel Blackberries are the fastest at receiving email and opening attachments because of this fact. However, then your battery drains faster. I get around 2 days with my 7510 only because I have the auto-shutoff set at night.

Yes, I can definitely see some cause for concern with continuous use (as it is meant for) with no access to a charger close by.

As mentioned before, Nextel has never been known for good battery life.

This is irrelevant since you no longer own a 75xx...but an extended battery might be a good option as well.

Have you tried to see how long you can go before getting the low battery warning? I have noticed that the 7520 drops its battery level fairly soon after taking it off charge. However I also found that when it gets to 1 or 2 bars the drop-off is much slower. I once went all day even though I only started off with 3 bars.

I would assume that the extended battery is thicker. Is this the case? Do you have to use a different cover??

They recieve a charge when plugged in to the computer to sync up. Through the day I will plug it in for a few minutes here and there to help maintain the battery. I am also a very heavy user.

rta53, yes the extended life battery is thicker and it does require a different cover.
I also plug mine in to my PC during the day to keep the battery "up".

Did the cover come with the extended battery? How much difference does it make in the thickness of the 7520?

You do get 2 battery doors with the extended battery. However, the doors are blue and black. For another $10 you can order a set or replacement doors in the proper 7520 Artic color..(you get the standard and extended battery door for $10) ..and as far as the case...it still fits in the same holster and it is not the much bigger at all.

I made it a full two days on a single charge... very light usage (weekend). No way could this thing go two working days on a single charge!

I would agree, with mine, even light usage drops it. It is all related to Nextel Network. i also own a 7100T, and the difference is amazing, with heavy use I can get 2-3 days out of the 7100T.......

I experienced the same effect with the BB myself. It seems that it would drop down to 2-3 bars in a heartbeat, but hold the last bar or two strong. Weird but love it!

For the Extended battery by itself you can order using Nextel part number RAC5526 or RIM part number ACC-05505-026. For the Arctic Black battery doors (large and small) Nextel part number RAC5525 or RIM part number ACC-05505-025. If you order the accessory that has the Extended life battery plus the blue and black doors, please note the doors with this are to match a 6510 (black) and a 7510 (blue) The 6510 Series black does not match the 7520 black.

Some corrections ...

Nextel Blackberries don't last as long as other Blackberries on a charge for the same reason that Nextel phones don't last as long as other phones -- the iDEN network is a power hog. Blackberry or no.

As for Blackberries on Nextel's network receiving mail "faster," that's not the case, either. If you're using Blackberry Web Client, the BWC polls the inbox every fifteen minutes to determine if there are unread messages, and then delivers said messages to your handheld. If you're using BES, the emails get "pushed" directly to your handheld, instantly. What carrier you're using is irrelevant. Nextel Blackberries are no more "constantly" connected to the network than are their T-Mobile, Verizon, Cingular, or Sprint counterparts.
