Lightbulb A Mother Lode of MIDI Ringtones

Please Login to Remove!

I've stumbled onto a collection of 61,341 MIDI ringtones you can search by keyword. It's called the MIDI Ringtone Depot and is free. Go to http://wap.icarusindie.com:2004/index.php to audition the ringtones on your desktop. Write down the numbers of the ones you like. Then visit http://wap.icarusindie.com:2004/wap.php with your Blackberry browser to test and download them to your Blackberry. Most are polyphonic, which may not work -- or sound very good -- on non-7100 models, so expect a lot of trial and error.

Nice site. The link you have to audition the ringtones is incorrect, the correct link is http://www.icarusindie.com/free_midi_ringtones/

Great Job!

Note: I tried to click on sone of the categories list and I just get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error. Have you been able to listen to them from your PC?

Not sure why you're getting the error message. Yes, I'm able to listen to them on my desktop. It's much quicker than using the Blackberry. If the files won't play from your desktop, it could be a problem with how your browser is configured. Assuming you're using Windows, do you have the .MID extension associated with a MIDI-file playing program, such as Windows Media Player? Is your sound card otherwise able to play MIDI files with a .MID extension?

There are a few categories off the main directory that don't have any entries (such as Gospel and Wedding). I don't get an error with them, only a page with no song titles.

I bet the reason some cannot get to the tones from their desktop PC is that the web site is using port 2004, and if that port is closed on their company firewall, you will not get the tones, but you will see the listing (since that is not behind port 2004).

Even if I use my wap browser and try the site: http://wap.icarusindie.com:2004
all I get is Search and Submit options, either one I click on does nothing.
I can get to the page that says " Enter ringtone ID: but not to the ringtones. by using the link listed by DavidE.

Note: I can see directories from PC but that's about it.

Have you tried typing a number where it asks for a ringtone ID? Here's one you can try: 3572. It's a 5K file of the 2001 movie theme. Once you download it, the Blackberry browser should bring up an MIDI-playback interface that lets you listen to the file or save it.

That tone worked fine, just can't access the directories.

When you access the site with your Blackberry, is there a link at the top that leads to the files? Does that not work?

When you access the site from your desktop (via http://wap.icarusindie.com:2004/index.php), can you use the search field? For example, when I search on the keyword "chime," it brings up a new page with a list of MIDI files I can click to audition. That holds true whether I'm using Firefox or Internet Explorer.

I really appreciate your help, but I just can't get the list to pull up. Thanks anyway!

I am on a nextel 7520 and I can go to the site all the way up to where it gives me the option for search or submit, but when I try either options it just sends me right back to the same page.

Exact same scenario for me....

SOLVED IT! It didnt work using http://wap.icarusindie.com:2004/index.php so I tried http://wap.icarusindie.com:2004/wap.php & was able to type in the number of the midi I wanted, but if you have a 7520, dont waste your time, most sound terrible (because we only have monophonic, not polyphonic)
