Default 4.6.0.477/4.6.0.282 allows 2g/3g selection on ATT

Please Login to Remove!

In case you did not see this in the thread above, this OS allows 2g/3g selection on AT&T.

So, you no longer need to de-brand.

I just received a replacement Bold and was about to go through the de-branding process again, now I don't need to...

I am uploading this OS now. After I have done the upload, where are the 2g/3g selection options?

Kicks ass. This is great. Everything is working. Does take a bit when you return to 3G and 2G from 2G only.

Mostly for better battery life. The 3G allows you to use simultaneous voice and data, and somewhat better d/l speeds, but not significantly better.

But 2G will make your battery last longer for sure...

A lOT better battery life. 3G is of little value to me unless I'm tethering.

If you have good 3G coverage in your area, I find that none of the negatives listed are true.

Everything is faster, and being able to do GPS navigating while talking on the phone is priceless.

Interesting about the GPS navigating. I can't recall what used to happen but I thought TN worked so long as you did the route before you got on the call and didn't have to reroute. Will have to test this.

why I can select 2G/3G in my bold with .266? And I remember I can do it too when my OS is .247.

Only ATT bold locked this selection before?

No Sir...the GPS would "track" and you could generally see where you were, but maps did not continue and re-routing did not occur.

Any data transfer was gone in lieu of the phone data stream.

I used Telenav for a year or more on the 8820 and the Curve.... what a joy to be on the Bold!

Even in a perfect 3g area, 2g will take less battery.

makes sense for trips that need a reroute. Is it needed otherwise? not sure.

When you don't have your data coverage after it's been mapped, you'll only see the purple line in BB Maps. You won't get updated maps to see side streets or turn-offs so some of it becomes guess work.
