It could be possible, the 8830 came out on a Sunday if I remember correctly.

If you read this PDF closely, it actually gives November 1, 2008 as the date that customers would be eligible for a new every 2 upgrade (e.g. those existing VZW customers that are eligible for a subsidized upgrade by signing a new contract) as "targets" for the promotion. Generally, VZW will allow customers to upgrade phones about a month prior to their contract actually expiring (I know from personal experience) so this may point to an Oct. 1 release date.

Just speculation on my part so don't take this as meaning that I have heard that 10/1/2008 will be the release date.

It sure looks like they will sell it to new customers only till 11/1. After that date current customers will be able to upgrade their units to Storm if elegible.

My contract is up on 9/19/08 and my wife's is 12/7/08. So I have to wait? Our account shows NE2 for both phones and both show Upgrade Available today. Why would VZW make me wait an additional month if they want to keep us as a customer.

I think they did somthing like this before with one of their devices to increase number of new customers. In your case might be litle different since you are out of the contract and I'm sure they want to retain you. Again, we don't know when its coming out for sure so its only speculation at this point.

It doesn't matter which phone comes up for an upgrade. My business account lets me upgrade any phone and mix and match packages when they are due. It just depends on who will get the upgrade first.

So it looks like from this pic, business customers can order it on Monday the 22nd right. Or is the 22nd some type of announcement for business customers.

That's a launch date for the email campaign. Not the phone. If that document is even real, or current, I'd say it looks like November 1 will be the launch date for the phone.

I highly doubt they will release the phone for new customers only and then a month later allow upgrades...

As a business customer, I actually had to wait a few weeks after the Curve came to VZW. My rep said they never get first dibs on inventory and upgrade discounts.

I wonder if the hold up is a marketing gimmick or an issue with technology or distribution.

a lot of hype so far. We have to assume that they want to hit the holiday shopping market.
