Phone keeps shutting off
Please Login to Remove!
My 8320 Keeps shutting itself off and the only way i can get it to restart/powerup is to plug it up to the powersupply. The battery meter isn't even low. If I'm on a call and try to do mutiple task it shuts down. Any help would be great. Ohh am running 4.5.75

Do you have a media card? If so, try removing it and see if the rebooting stops.

If removing the card fixes your problem, yes.

is it completely at random. when you restart it, what happens? does it restart and turn off right away? i noticed this a couple of times if i got a big email with a lot of attachments and my memory would run low. nothing to do until i freed up more memory or deleted that email.

it doesnxxx8217;t turn back on unless i have the power attached and if i detach before it turns on all the way it'll shut off again. It just randomly does it....i could be on a phone call or txt'ing or emailing or bbmsging.....if it was a memory problem wouldnt it do a dump? It started doing this after i upgraded to 4.5 but that might just be a coincidence.

If you reformatted the card and then simply moved all the old files back you will have the same problem. It's usually a conflicting file like a pic or video, that is causing the reboots. You may need to remove the files out of one folder at a time in order to find the file that's causing the problem.

Yeah I've noticed it to be an offending file in a text or email where it will completely restart/turn down.

Usually it's on the SD card, though. But that is possible, too.

It's almost guaranteed the the "official" release from TMobile/AT&T will have this same issue.
All the OS's are developed by RIM for each model. 4.5 is official, just TMobile hasn't stamped it yet. The SD card issues are the same across the board, regardless of carrier.

I am the Blackberry admin at our firm and have recently been having the same issue with some of our Blackberrys. We have two BESes, one with 204 users in our main office and onw with 32 in another. About 3 weeks ago we had about 10 Blackberrys (one 7250, four 7130es, and 5 8830s) shut down for no apparent reason. I called Verizon on two of them (one 8830 and one 7130e) which they agreed to replace. As of today, they are still shutting down. I called Verizon back and they said that it's a BES issue since there are different models involved, which means it's not a device issue. I got a call today about another user who has a 7130e which shuts down at least 3 times a week. She says it seems to be when she is trying to switch between applications. The other two I mentioned have shut down during phone calls or just sitting idle.
I have sent log files to our third party troubleshooting group (Vox Mobile) and they are looking into it. Their initial response was that they don't know of any command that can be sent to a device to shut it down other than the kill command. Or possibly a policy change which prompts the user to reboot.
On a side note, one of our managers here siad that his wife has a cell phone that just restarted the other day.
I'll post any information I get from Vox or anything else I can dig up.

Thanks for the info and keep us updated....
as for my test about 5 minutes after i took out my SD card it did it again but it hasnt happened since (over 12 hours) i'll keep it out and see what happens. I am running on a BES so Gamolon's theory does hold. I'll check in in a few days unless it shuts down again.

Ok so it's still happening but not as often (donxxx8217;t know if that's a coincidence). Ixxx8217;m gonna keep the sd out and try something else. I usually have my wifi and bluetooth always on. Although the failure happens randomly (on a phone call or not, on bluetooth or not, on wifi network or not) im gonna keep my wifi off to see if it keeps happening....bluetooth is next if it fails again.

Is there a particular instance going on when the phone shuts down? Screen saver, phone rings, on a phone call, etc.? or is it sporadic?
I'm still waiting for our third party folks to look through the BES logs.

ok so i had wifi and bluetooth off and it happened again while i was on a phone call. When it got back on the battery was extreemly low so low that radio didnt work. Before it shut off i had just a little below half battery (it had just gone down from half). Also in order to turn back on i had to remove battery and put back in. im tempted to do a wipe and re-activate. or reinstall the os maybe a different version.
