Default software configurations

Please Login to Remove!

I'm setting up some apps to be deployed ota. Software folders are located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Applications.

\\server\Research In Motion is shared out and they have been indexed.

In the device software configuration screen I now see Application Software but I am unable to expand this folder.

What have I missed out?

Have you indexed the apps yet?

From the commandline "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe /index"

Default Creating new software configuration for OTA push

I am having the same problem. Running BES 4.1.16 and have followed several documents outlining the installation of apps OTA.

I have a theme I created residing in a JAD file and an ALX file. (I also tried the Google Maps route to see if that worked).

I created c:\program files (x86)\common files\research in motion\share\applications\google and copied the Google Maps app there.

I then ran the loader.exe /index from the command line.

Nothing changed in the Google folder. i didn't get the additional files. the same is true with my theme folder (also under ...share\applications\).

I cannot get the BES to see the apps in those folders in order to make a software configuration.

Like I said, I have read several docs about creating new software configurations but they all say pretty much the same thing (almost word for word.)

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Before you run loader.exe /index, go to the applications folder on the command line. THEN run it.

Ouch, I still have to do some things like that.

Kinda like the old DOS days.

I went back through my steps and ran the loader.exe /index form the c:\program files (x86)\common files\reseatch in motion\share\applications\theme directory. Then I went into the Blackberry Manager and tried to create a new software configuration.

Same thing happens... I get the following error...

The specified path does not contain the required device software directory structure.

Could this have anything to do with the "Research In Motion" directory being a long file name? All the docs I have read say to keep the app installation paths under the "Research In Motion"\....... tree.

1. On the host computer, go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\ and create a folder called Shared.
2. In the Shared folder, create another folder called Applications.
3. In the Applications folder, create a subfolder to contain the application files (for example, a folder named Theme).
4. Place the application files that you downloaded in the subfolder you created in step 2.
5. From a command prompt, type cd C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Apploader and press ENTER.
6. Type loader.exe /index and press ENTER.
7. Share the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion directory.

That's what I did from the start. All the docs outline those steps but for some reason th BES doesn't seem to be updating available apps.

When you created the software configuration, did you point it to the actual share directory?

Do you see the following files in your app folders:

PkgDBCache.xml
specification.pkg

If so loader.exe is working and there is something wrong with your share.

When I run loader.exe /index, nothing happens to the folders/files under share. Is there something that has to be done with the loader.exe file to tell it where the packages reside?

I am using UNC paths whenm I create the package.

No. Maybe it is due to the (x86) designation since it looks like you are running 64bit. To test, create a new share off the root of the drive like c:\RIM\Shared\.. c:\RIM\AppLoader etc and share out RIM, then try running from loader.exe /index from command prompt in Apploader directory.
