Default verizon BB data/email plan

Please Login to Remove!

is the verizon email and data plan unlimted email and data, or just unlimted email then you pay for the data as you use it? it doesnt really make it clear on the site. i'm assuming it is unlimited for $30 a month, but id rather know for sure instead of running up a HUGE data bill.

Thanks guys
(ps.. im a cell phone dummy if u cant tell, haha)

It is "unlimited." However, it is really capped at 5 gigabytes. I don't think you will ever come close to that amount unless you tether.

Don't worry, I had the same questions that I wanted answered before I upgraded from a cell phone. I had to ask that question to 3 (that's right, three) different customer service reps before I got a definite answer.

Anyone know what happens if you hit the cap? Wonder if they shut you off or charge you for the overage.

Yes, it is using your phone as a modem.

Tethering is an extra $15 a month however, and you have to ask for that.. So if you just ask for a BB data plan (make sure it is the 29.99 one) you should be fine.

Now say you get the plan the OP is talking about, plus the additional $15/month for tethering...does the 5gig cap still exist or is it raised/removed once you add on the tethering option?

Reason I ask is because I'm currently an Alltel user, been tethering my 8130 for over a year now. I'll be honest, I play multiplayer FPS constantly, and sometimes I'll stream a show or buy a song off of amazon. There have been a few times where I've likely used 5gb in a month or less, but for the most part I don't think I come close to that amount. The fact remains that for me it's more than "highly unlikely", and I don't want to be the next guy on the news with a 10k dollar phone bill. Personally, I don't want to be under Verizon at all...I left them for Alltel about 4-5 years ago. Obviously that plan backfired.

Tethering is the only option I have for internet where I live...no cable, no dsl, no satellite and no wireless(and no talk of upgrading or extending service areas from any of the companies that offer the above). These days I no longer consider 56k internet, I prefer to just pretend it doesn't exist anymore.

I believe the 5 gb cap is just that, regardless of adding the tethering package or not. You may want to contact Verizon to verify.

I really don't think playing a multiple FPS online via a tethered Blackberry will be a good experience.. BB tethering speeds are typically a few 100k.. maybe a 1MB connection if you are really in a good spot, but I would think you would hit 5GB fairly quickly depending on the game.

But yes tethering is an addition $15 a month on top of the 29.99 for the unlimited data on the BB itself.

I doubt you could the 5 GB limit using the BB alone without tethering.

Their is also a 3rd party App tetherberry but I don't know how VZW stands with that.

I can actually play CS, TF2 and L4D comfortably with this connection. The lag/choke shows just a bit on CS but it can be corrected for the most part by adjusting your CL rates.

Really.. I can't really imagine playing TF2 or L4D on a BB EVDO connection.

And you say it really isn't that bad? What's average Ping/Choke if you remember off hand?

No loss/choke on TF2 or L4D, minor choke(bounces from 1 to 30 here and there) on CS. Latency on CS stays around 200-250ms, don't recall what it was on the other games. CS is the only game that will lag from time to time, little lag spikes that last 5ish seconds or less...mostly during the day.

You can adjust your CL rates to overcome some latency/choke/loss issues on these games. They only help so much, and are more for "syncing" your rates with that of the server you're playing on.
