Default 8700c on T-Mobile step by step (yes I did search already)

Please Login to Remove!

Please forgive the newby question and god knows I did search (for the past 3 hours) but I cannot find a comprehensive answer to my question, which is;

How exactly, step-by-step if possible, do I go about setting up the 8700c on TMobile (See facts for my situation listed below)

In various posts I have read about IMEI's, PIN numers, uploading service books, etc. I have not been able to find one thread, or post, that walks you through the conversion/set up process.

I am new to the BB but have been around the block with Treos and other cells phones & PDAs so I don't consider myself a tech idiot (although reasonable people may differ on this conclusion )

I thought I would ask and if I find the answer I am looking for, others may benefit as well if they try to make the same switch I am.

Thanks In advance for any help you may offer!

Facts for my sitation:

1) I just purchased a unlocked BB8700c from Adam at GSMPHONESOURCE.com

2) I am an existing TMobile customer, but not with BB plan, which I will obviously be adding.

3) I will not be connecting to an exchange server. I own my own contracting business and have email accounts with a few POP3 services (Godaddy.com, Roadrunner, etc)

You should be able to put your current SIM in the BB and get it to work as a phone. If this doesn't work because the SIM is too old, you may need to get a new one from Tmobile. But your SIM doesn't really contain any information except the phone number.

If it is truly unlocked:

1) Call Tmobile get BBPlan which should give you a [email address] email address

2) Go into Tmobile BIS webclient and set up a new account by entering your PIN and EMEI, add your POP3 account that you want for your "send-from"

3) Either go to your POP3 email servers and forward a copy of your email to your BB addy (almost instant) or add all your POP3 addys in the BIS webclient (10-15 minute delay for polling).

4) Send service books from the BIS

Have Fun

If this is truely a unlocked blackberry, you'll need to subscribe to the blackberry server from t-mobile. I would suggest you subscribe to the blackberry unlimited plan in addition to your current voice plan since you have several email accounts. I have 7 different pop accounts and it works great for me.

nb_mitch THANKS

That's exactly what I was looking for. I think my SIM should be ok I just got it two months ago.

The BB should be unlocked, I have read good things about Adam and his company and several forum members report thier BB's from him came exactly as advertised and then set up on Tmobile no problem. As I said it was the step by step part I was missing.

I am expecting the 8700c in tomorrow and will report back on my experience.

Oh Man, you said you already had it, now I got to add all those pre-setup sets, like

1) opening the box
2) have babe get you a beer
3) open BB/remove battery/remove SIM (if one already exists)
4) plug in USB to start charging while you finish the beer
5) have babe get another beer
6) sync outlook to BB
7) finish the beer
8) return the BB and claim it was defective, because you spilled the 3rd beer when the babe handed it to you, etc.....

I tried steps 2, 5 and 7 at work and it didn't work.
Do I need to load new themes and ringtones in place of beer?

It's really the same as setting up any Blackberry on any carrier (aside from not using the device's branded carrier SIM).

The only thing I'm not certain of is that generally using the "Set Up Email" icon on the handheld allows you to set up email without logging into the BWC/BIS. However, I'm not sure if the icon is hard coded to go to the BWC/BIS of whichever carrier's brand is on the device...

In any case, nb_mitch's approach is really what I'd recommend as well.

T-Mobile's BIS is actually integrated into their web site unlike the other carriers who are still using the older BWC. Just log in to T-Mobile and click on Blackberry Internet Email once your Balckberry data plan is fully provisioned.
