Default New blackberry - moving old emails to blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

The owner of my company just bought a new blackberry, old one died. We set him up on the new bb, and he is only getting new emails. Even if we reconcile, the old emails do not show up. Is there a way to get the old emails to his new bb.

Regards,
Beenie

did you have a backup of the device?

what version BES are you running - wireless backup was a feature introduced in 4.0 IIRC so provided this was turned on should be possible to restore.

If you're on pre 4.0 and you/he didn't have a backup of the device then you/he are screwed.

Assuming you have BES 4.x, then when you did the Enterprise Activation it should have (by default) brought over the last 5 days (sent/received) or 200 messages (whichever comes first).

If you have an earlier version of BES, then the only way to restore the messages is from a Backup, or for the owner to send the messages to himself again (which will be misleading since they will all be from him, not the original sender).

Is that an option on the BES to have the older emails brought over? I have 300 users on a BES and that has never happened when they get new devices unless the old one was backed-up and restored.

Yes, I am on BES 4.0. I have wireless backup turned on for all my users on the BES. It did not bring over the older emails, it only brought over todays emails. Scratching my head why this did not take. And he has no backup from the dead blackberry. I was just curious if there was another way. Thanks for the help!

Did he get 200 emails today? I know it sounds like a lot but it's not impossible...

Does not backup:

Quote:
messages that were received on the BlackBerry device before the specified prepopulation date, not marked as saved, located in folders not set for redirection, or that have message filters assigned to prevent redirection to the BlackBerry device
See if any of this coincides with the account.

P.S. - B, I thought that read "the owner of my company died and got a new BlackBerry." haha!

HAHAHAHA JIBI!! Oh well it's not a big deal. You would think there would be a way to look at an exchange account and tell it to pull down lets say the last weeks emails or something in that scenario.

according to the rim folks, i was told this when i was migrating from 3.6 to 4.1: "not all emails, calendar, etc. items will be migrated OTA because those items have already been tagged by the BES as being 'already sent'. best solution is to take a manual backup of the handheld before moving over to 4.1."

This is correct, the handheld isn't supposed to hold your whole mailbox, it's supposed to hold your current mail.

it wont "prepopulate" after a activation only after the user has been removed and then added back to BES. i think with 4.1.2 the pre population case be set to last 750 messages.

and the activation does sync down all calendar items all address's , memos and tasks just not all mail.

I had the same issue when I decided to wipe my bb. I got some items but did not get any of my emails. I did do a backup though. Then I just sent an activation password to reconnect to the BES. So far all I got was calendar entries. No email, memos or tasks. I am running BES 4.1 on W2k3 srv with Domino 7.

My wish list for BES 5 would be a specific user option to resend or forward emails to the BB for the last 7 days or 14 days depending on how much memory the device has. It should also have the ability to recognize if there are duplicate emails already on the bb.
