Wait, let me get this straight... when you say quadband, are you refering to the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM frequency? Or you are referring to the 2 CDMA frequency plus the 900/1800 GSM frequency?

Has anyone asked the guestion if GSM will be crippled while CDMA networks are available or are we looking at the possibilty of dual line usage? (1 CDMA and 1 GSM) I would love this cause I am a VZW and Cingy customer and would love to just carry one device.

I would think CDMA is the default and GSM would need to be activated via VZW support. I don't think you will have 1 CDMA and 1 GSM number. We'll all have to wait till its available and see what VZW does.

This definitely sounds like an interesting model. Any bets on what Verizon will decide to disable??

mostly likely, bluetooth, camera (if it has one), speed dial, sms, mms, certain functions of email, only allow you to move to the right in the game of "brick breaker", um... I might've forgotten a couple of features on their disable list, I'm sure someone here can fill in the rest.

Wow that screen capture really is bad. I bet it was taken with a Treo camera hahahaa ... okay, all kidding aside, can any of you guys make out if this model will be on Verizon's high speed data network? If so it makes me question why they would leave out 3G on the Cingular version.

Because the HSDPA radio is a battery hog. RIM is notorious about wanting the most life from their batteries. So until they're happy with battery life from their HSDPA radios, I would not expect them to release it. Which by the way should be this fall....

It appears to say EVDO in the spec sheet, or whatever the hell that is. Also, the timeframe matches with what my corporate rep told me yesterday about the "new ultra cool blackberry 8800" (I got the quote wrong yesterday because I didn't look at his e-mail before typing my post) in response to my not-so-veiled threat to feed him my Q, which they can't make work without requiring a daily reset, and move my data to Cingular so that I could have a world phone.

I travel internationally regularly and was excited when verizon came out with their Samsung world phone. I have to tell you after my first trip overseas and dealing with verizon trying to turn on the gsm capability was a joke. After hours of back and forth with their customer service (and remeber you are overseas so getting ahold of a competent customer service person at those hours wasn't the easiest) all I was able to do is place calls, but if anyone tried to call the phone the call would not go through. I just hope they have figured out the glitches. The actual switching from CDMA to GSM wasn't this streamline, easy thing to do.

that is not what dual mode means to verizon. you would only be able to use this on verizon's cdma network here in the u.s. when you travel abroad, you will be able to use its gsm bands. you would NOT however, but able to use it on the gsm network here in the u.s.

they came out with a samsung "world" phone that has the same capabilities a few years ago.

so no, you will not nor cannot have a number for cdma and another one for gsm.
