Default BPS options for removing user

Please Login to Remove!

I have a user that just left the company and I have been asked to make sure he no longer gets company email. The user may be allowed to keep his phone. The user is at a remote location so I do not have access to the phone. I know my options are the following:

Delete User
Erase Data and Disable Handheld
Set Password and Lock Handheld

My questions are if I delete the user will it remove email, contacts, and calendar options from the device? Will I still be able to get to the device if they later decide to “Erase data and disable”? What does the disable do in “Erase data and disable”? Also how do I make a backup of the information on the phone?

Please offer advice if you know a better way to accomplish this task

Thanks in advance

If you disable and wipe his device remotely all current data on it -Contacts and old email, will be gone -along with his personal contacts, unless saved to SIM card. This can cause a problem if it is 'his' device not the company's. If it is the company’s device that he 'may' be allowed to keep this is the best course of action -to limit company exposure. If you remove the user from the BES he will no longer receive email but anything on it (old emails and company contacts/address list) will remain on it until he wipes it. If you remove the user from the BES you sever ties to the device and will no longer be able to do anything to it, remotely, to manage it.

Follow up question here also. If I wipe my device and then reconnected it to the BPS server, all my settings are restored. Here do I delete those so that I can actually wipe my device, reconnect it to the BPS and not have all my settings restored?

in order to delete your settings, you need to remove your account from the BES server, wait about 10 minutes(for all the data to be removed) then re-add yourself to BES and re-activate the device.
