Default Skype on Z10

Hi, is Skype working perfectly fine on Z10 now? Can it keep running until we get a call or text or does it have to be on the foreground to be active?

No. It is still a ported Android version. It will keep running, but it will eat batteries like it's going out of style.

Oh wait...

Ouch, believe or not, a lot of people still depend on Skype, like my son talking to his great-grand father and other old folks overseas. They all have skype on their computers, and since they don't use tablets or iphones or androids, we can't really push them to get BBM. It would be excellent if we could get them to use bbm, but sadly it's not possible, especially with BBM not being available for anything earlier than Android 4.x

So you mean it runs in the background and drains battery even when it is not being used? Sorry to hear it's still a port and not a native app.

I use Skype frequently as well, but the port to BB10 is garbage.

So you are still one of us.
What do you do for Skype? Do you still use it in it's garbage form, or did you find an alternative? Can you tell me more about what makes it garbage? Skype is actually an important factor for me.

I have a Z10, but it sits in my Gucci shoe box of old phones. I pull it out every so often to see if anything has changed for the better. It hasn't.

I use Skype on my iPhone 5S, iPad Mini, and laptop. The main reason it's garbage on BB10 is that the ported Android version will annihilate the battery when it's running because it doesn't comply with the power-saving features of native BB10 apps. When I used my Z10 regularly, I could get 6-8 hours out of it before it needed to be charged (30% battery). If I left Skype running, it was 4-6 at most. I started to just close the app after I used it to make my call, which was fine as I have call forwarding active on Skype, but your situation may be different.
