Keypad Back light Issue

The Keypad back light on my 8520 only comes on when the BlackBerry Splash Screen with progress bar (after a battery pull) but once it goes out when the carrier splash screen comes on and once OS5 is loaded and usable the keypad back light no longer comes on.
I've got absolutely no idea why its stopped coming on and was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it.
