Make sure that you have a bluetooth adapter or built into the pc (obvious I know), have the BB and pc paired, open desktop manager (from here you will see two icons appear on the task bar), double click the BlackBerry Device Manager Properties icon, on that screen you'll see enable bluetooth support and click the box, then click on configure bluetooth and add, from there you will add your BB.

Then go to the desktop manager, go to options then connection settings, on the connection drop down highlight bluetooth and enable bluetooth support, from there you should be set.

I have purchased a Targus ACB10US USB Bluetooth dongle... installed it... even had it paired with my laptop. Everything to that point was working... except this option in desktop manager.

Does the Targus use it's own bluetooth stack or the built in SP2 bluetooth stack in XP? Did you have to install any software? If so it won't work.

In order to get the bluetooth synching abilities in desktop manager you must be using the XP SP2 bluetooth stack. I have a Belkin dongle that works flawlessly for synching.

Well... I initially installed the bluetooth stack that came with my dongle. After reading some troubleshooting here about this, I uninstalled it to use the Windows stack. The bad news... I am running XP Pro w/ sp2 and neither before or after is the bluetooth option in the control panel. I thought that maybe if I plugged the device in w/o drivers, Windows would recognize it and do some sort of install. It does nothing... almost as if the Windows stack isn't here.

Have you read the article on how to edit your bth.inf file? I'll try to find it here.

I don't believe that I have seen this. I have however followed the Microsoft Knowledge Base discussion that was in a different thread. It had me select Start -> Run -> bthprops.cpl -> Go... this did absolutley nothing, like bthprops.cpl did not exist.

Thank you for taking the time to assist me with this... very frustrating for a guy w/ little patients.

Not a problem. Okay, I can't find the post so I'll try to walk you through this the best I can.

First thing's first, you'll need to remove any software that you installed with the BT dongle.

Once this is done go to 'My Computer', double click the c:, and go to tools on the menu bar, then folder options, click on view, then show hidden files and folders.

This will allow you to find the inf directory in windows. c:/windows/inf

From there locate your bth.inf file.

This is what it will look like (I cut off the stuff at the bottom that we don't need to worry about.

First off copy this file to the same directory and change the name to bth_old.inf so we have a backup.

Now here is where we're going to trick the XP BT stack into thinking it supports your BT dongle.

Unplug the dongle and plug it back in, when it tries to update the driver, cancel it. Go into the device manager [right click on my computer and choose properties / hardware / device manager] You should see your BT dongle on the list with a yellow ! next to it. Right click on it and select properties. Then details. Now you should see a screen that has a drop down box with the words "device instance id" change that to the next one down in the drop down box labled "hardware ids" and copy down on paper exactly what it has listed there.

Now we're going to edit the bth.inf file to include that info so now you'll change the inf file that we posted above from that to this: (changes in bold)

The x's will be what you wrote down from the device manager's hardware id list for the dongle.

From there save the file and unplug the dongle. Plug it back in and it should then prompt you to install the drivers again. Before doing this make sure the disk for the dongle isn't in a drive. update the driver and it will install the XP SP2 stack. Giving you the option to see the Bluetooth icon in control panel.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Okay... I followed everything step by step. At the point of unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in, it did ask that the drivers be installed. I gave it the ability to search Windows Update for the drivers and install the software automatically. AT the end of the searcdh, it told me that it could not install this hardware.

The device is listed as BCM92045DG-FLash_UHE in the Add New Hardware wizard. It is also listed as this in Device Manager under Other Devices.

Scratch that... for the heck of it... I went in to verify the Hardware id and it had changed drastically. I went back into the bth.ini file and made the changes and the installation took this time.

I will keep going and let you know the outcome. Thank you again for all of your assistance. You have been a huge help.

I made an edit to the post above. In the string:

Quote:
[Targus.NT.5.1]
USB Bluetooth Device= BthUsb, USB\Vid_xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I had an extra comma in there, it used to look like this:

Quote:
[Targus.NT.5.1]
USB Bluetooth Device= Bth,Usb, USB\Vid_xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Make sure that you remove that extra comma between Bth & Usb.

It is working! Not only is the bluetooth working, but I have already sync'd with my Outlook through Desktop Manager.

I do not know how to thank you enough? Your help has been greatly appreciated and I only hope I can repay the favor.

Take care.

Not a problem at all. I remember when I first got my BT Dongle what a pain it was, someone was able to help me so it's my turn to return the favor. Glad I could help!

Congrats on getting it working and take care!

If your BT device is built in the bth.inf will already include all the info it needs.

Does your device show up in the device manager? What happens when you go to Start > Run > type in bthprops.cpl?

Default Tried everything

I'm another noobie having trouble using bluetooth with Desktop Manager.

My situation is as follows:
* I have a Dell D620 with a built-in Dell 350 bluetooth adapter. It's already listed in my bth.inf file, and shows up under control panel / bluetooth devices. When I uninstall the device, turn off bluetooth, restart, and turn bluetooth back on, it's the same thing that reinstalls. Does this mean I'm already using the Windows stack or that I still need to do something else? If I have to do something else to be using the windows stack, then what is that I have to do and where to I get it?
* I have a new 8100 Pearl. On my phone, under Bluetooth, it says I'm paired with my laptop (Dell D620). Under device properties, trusted is checked yes and encryption is disabled, but no services are listed. Under options, it is discoverable, and address book transfer is enabled. Services listed here include desktop connectivity (among others).
* On my laptop, the device manager says I'm connected and the "Enable Bluetooth support" box is checked.
* In the Desktop Manager, under options/connection settings, the "Enable Bluetooth support" box is checked and it shows up in the list of pull-downs in the connections box. If I click the "Configure Bluetooth" button, it shows that my Blackberry has been added. However, under "serial port settings," everything is greyed out, including "Enable USB-to-serial converter compatibility." Don't know if that matters.
* When I click OK, on the bottom of the main desktop manager window, it says I'm disconnected. It works fine with USB.
* In case it makes a difference, I'm on t-mobile.

This is so frustrating, because everything seems to be set up properly and yet it still shows it being disconnected.

Can anyone help?
