Default Data services help

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

So I am currently in chittagong, bangaldesh for 2 weeks. I cannot get a blackberry plan as the only bb provider here (grameen) has an agreement with bb that you can only get the services if you purchase a bb from them, and I just bought my bold 9700 onyx in nov (2009).

Now, the issue is that, previously I had another sim that was working perfectly fine, I had blackberry services on it (no roaming though) and when I landed in dhaka airport, I was able to get on bbm using wireless from the airport.

As soon as I landed in chittagong, I changed my sim to a local one (obviously without any bb services), and when I tried to access wireless, No bbm works, no bb msn works (it says data services unavailable) however, I am able to browse using the browser.

I also googled this issue, and someone said insert a sim of someone who already has bb services, so i did that and registered a new host table routing number (or whatever it's called in advanced options), I didn't insert my sim, so I was trying to connect to wifi simless, it still didn't work, and I was only able to browse using the browser.

Now can someone please tell me what the problem might be? What can I do to fix it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

also, it says GSM in capital on the top and I haven't updated to the newest bbm version

GSM means you have phone service and SMS only, no data services. Go to options > mobile network and make sure data services is turned on.

And your post is a bit confusing. Did you or did you not insert the SIM from the carrier that provides your BB service?

Data services is turned on.

Sorry, to be a little clearer. It was working in Dhaka airport, whilst my old sim was still inserted which had bb services however, roaming was not available, so there was no signal (the sos sign was in the top right hand corner), I was able to access bbm using wireless from the airport. Once I inserted a local sim (when I reached chittagong), that's when wireless would not connect. So i'm not sure if it has anything to do with the 2 sims or not. I'm quite confused myself.

I did try inserting the old sim and using wireless, however that didn't work either.

First of all check whether you are connected to any WiFi netowrk, normally in Airports eyou have Wifi networks and some are free so when you ahve a WiFI enabled device you will be able to browse using that.

Now in your place do you have a WiFi which you can connect?

If not I thnk you have to enable data services in your SIM to get connected to net using your SIM.

Hope this helps.

Without a SIM card provisioned with a BlackBerry plan in the device, services like BBM will not work, even on WiFi.

The solution is to put your home SIM card back in.

Sigh, even that's not working anymore.. (it worked before I changed my sim to a local one)
