Default BB Curve 8310 without Data Plan - text message notification about received MMS

Please Login to Remove!

Turning off BIS turned off any data/multimedia capability required to receive/send MMSs/ picture messages on phone.

I spoke with customer service/technical support that instructed me I still should be able to view picture messages from special ATT website [email address]/1 and each time someone sends text message to me I should get notification with message id and password. Unfortunately it does not work. And neither person sending MMS to me won't get reject notification or anything.

Called customer service, they did test by sending MMS to me but they were not much of help

How much more was your BIS package?
I think if you really want to get the most out of your Blackberry, its best to have the full data package.

$30 per month

I live in city with 3G coverage but curve does not have neither 3G nor wi-fi.

Its slow, and I can acccess emails/website on the go with my ipod touch.

Soon my contract will expire in few months so I think about saving few bucks for better phone.

Since PPU is not option...,

I would put "block receiving MMS" feature if it existed so in case if anyone would like to send to me MMS I wouldn't have to personally tell everybody I do not use it.

att at the time they were selling they offered BB data plan as optional and to use mms you only needed PPU (pay per use) media net data plan. That was in early 2008 when many new smartphones offered full benefits of 3G except of Blackberries until summer when Bold came out.

I understand not everybody was happy with BB limits so they offered more flexibility.

Now's that market changed and Blackberries are very advanced, obviously the strategy changed. BB data plan are now mandatory and no PPU, but now you can take full advantage of 3G service.

You may need to call back to ATT tech support. You will need to check your TCP and mobile network settings. You may also need to se if they will send the servicebooks to your phone. I begin to think I should have backed up all the stuff from ATT I wiped from my 8310 when I switched it to Tmo. Otherwise, you can try re-installing the ATT branded 4.5 OS. That may give you the service books and settings you need for MMS/SMS, you may still need to manually enter the TCP settings, though.
