Sometimes when you send a message, but go out of the chat before the tick or the 'D' mark appears, that indicator comes up. At least for mine it's like that. The chat header won't be bolded, but if you go into the offending chat the indicator will disappear.

Are you sure that it's not the symbol for something else?

App World? Browser Push Message? BBM friend request? SMS?

Definitely sounds like a BBM message by the way you describe it. I know you said you rebooted the device, but did you try removing the battery and putting it back in?

Wirelessly posted

See blackberryfaq.com re tricks for resetting counters, but it sounds like you've tried everything (if that is a counter). The last step, if you can't stand it any longer is the wipe and reinstall the OS. My advice is live with if you can, see if it eventually corrects itself or one day a battery pull turns out to be the magic one that fixes it. Or, you eventually find it isn't what you thought it was and you know how to clear it.

Every time my BB has the "curse" (as my friends and I call it - the LED lighting but no message) I just have to go to the app that gave it to me, and close it using the back button. It simply disappears.

BTW, you sure you don't have a voice message? The App center with an update? App world? Or any networking app? Check them all, and close them with the back button. It fixes mine all the time...if not, then I think you are going to have to live with it...

Hi,

This is also happening with my bb 9700. A lilac speech bubble and the number next to it keeps increasing. now its 22. Ive only had the blackberry two days. I have tried all the things that have been suggested but no luck. I thought it might be something to do with bbm, but i dont have 22 contacts lol. its driving me mad! also the red light is flashing sporadically, when i dont even have any new bbms, requests missed calls or anyhting.please can someone help me as it is driving me insane.
thanks

I had the same problem. It was a pretty easy solution once I knew what it was! :P
Ive downloaded a new textmessage program called crunchSMS. This was what the indication showed. Some of my text came into that program.

Is this what youre BB also was doin?
