Default Unlocking blackberry storm

Please Login to Remove!

So a friend of mine is telling me that her storm is unlocked for sim cards but the data plan won't work..

Is that a separate unlock? Is it even possible for the sim part of it to be locked but no access to the data plan? :S

I figured it wasn't so i dug around in the phone and I noticed that there is no "Browser" Icon in the main menu... I think this ( well, the lack thereof ) must have confused her..

So this leads to another question.... Where is the "Browser" icon.. How do I get it there?

One unlock should be all that you need. Service books wont get pushed without a Blackberry data plan. Have you tried to download another browser and install on the desktop?

No... Well there is no data plan on it ...

I know I can download another browser like bolt or opera mini or something but what about the default browser like how my bold has??

Service books? What? I'm confused. I'm pretty new to this whole blackberry thing :(

OK, so you will need to get it unlocked. Check with Horizon Wireless in my signature below, reputable and honest.

2. Read the first link I offered above, you'll need to do ALL that, except instead of ATT or Tmobile, you'll be substituting your carriers.

@jbairdjr, it's more than unlocking this device and pushing service books.

Thanks for the horizon link but I already have a reputable source I purchase unlock codes from. So I'll get one from them.

Are you sure @ number 2? Is this storm specific?

Have you read it? Doesn't it say "Unlocked Storm..." etc.?

Very Storm-specific.

One more thing.

If the phone is saying "Locked" why is the sim card working?

And where do I get my carriers service books from? :S

Because the locked Storm does allow GSM networks out of the US, with a SIM in it.

IF I recall correctly, that is why your SIM is working. Bring the same device to the US, and it wouldn't.

I see.. Interesting...

I have unlocked phones before but when I follow the instructions for the storm

1. Go to options
2. Go to advanced options
3. Go to simcard
4. Type the letters "mepd"

The menu should now change

5. Type the letters "mep" press alt type "2"

The screen does not come up for me to enter the unlock code :S

These instructions worked perfectly for me:

go to advanced options, sim card
type mep2 (turn sideways and press menu to expose keyboard) (you won't see as you type)
a hidden menu will open, enter code,
change modes by going to settings and mobile network and to umts and 2g/3g

I read that. I asked if you were certain it was unlocked, not if you were certain you had read the FAQ.
Posting back the same post I have read does not assure me the device is unlocked.

Just saying...
