Post New BES instance with same config db

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,

First, let me explain our environment. We have a single Exchange domain but servers are located in two physical data centers and configured for failover. Let's call the data centers A and B. Our single BES instance (call it BES1) is located in data center A and services mailboxes in both data centers. The latency from A to B is 60ms. What I want to do is setup a new BES instance (call it BES2) with a new SRP key in data center B and move users from BES1 to BES2 who have their mailbox in data center B. I understand I can move the users without having to enterprise activate them as long as I use the existing configuration database. My questions are:

1. Can I use the same besadmin account when setting up BES2? I believe the answer is yes but need confirmation. The mailbox for besadmin is located on a server in data center A if it makes any difference.

2. How will the install modify the existing config db? Is there any possibility of it getting clobbered? We back it up nightly anyway.

3. What are the implications of having the config db reside on a remote server with 60ms latency?

4. I should still be able to setup a high-availability server for BES1 in data center B and BES2 in data center 1 right? I want to do this because our Exchange servers are also configured for fail-over to the other data center. There's a section in the planning guide that depicts exactly what I'm trying to achieve here but want to see if anyone has done this. Check the section "Configuring disaster recovery for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server across data centers".

5. Any best practices to configure BES HA to failover when Exchange fails over?

I think that's it for now. Thanks a lot for reading and your responses.
