I've seen both sides.
I prefer to have the right to choose who gets my healthcare contribution.
I refuse to fund your substance abuse treatment.
I refuse to fund your welfare pregnancy.
I refuse to fund healthcare for children when it charges me $7.50 per tylenol.
I like the choice of a dual system.

I'm sorry but if it means paying a bit more taxes for health care then why not?
If Canada has one of the best health care systems in the world, why do so many Canadians come to the US for health care? I've read about long waits to see specialists, outdated equipment, etc. My Canadian friend had to go back and forth to the hospital several times a day for breathing treatments when she was really sick because there were no beds available. She would have gotten well a lot faster if she had been in the hospital.

BUT, we would be paying for it in increased taxes. The money has to come from somewhere. Not only would I be paying taxes for my own medical care, but for low lifes, drug dealers, women who have more babies so they can collect more welfare. No thanks.

My bigest problem is generations growing up on welfare or SS, thinking the tax payers owe them something. The working class are always the ones who have to pick up the tab.

But if the government is running the healthcare system, then we have the problem of it becoming political, being run by people who care more about their own positions of power and their own incomes than the people they are supposed to be serving. I would not trust the government to run healthcare. Look at how they've messed up Social Security. Federal agencies like the FDA are understaffed, which is why we have problems like the current recall of peanut products. The FDA doesn't have enough resources to adequately oversee the industries it's supposed to regulate.

Umm.. there is already a shortage of doctors and nurses. The problem is getting enough qualified people into the schools.

corporate america, a nationwide health care system will fail harder and probably cost some odd 1 quadrillion dollars.

edit: politics are horrible, its like religion, the problem is its no ran by people but by politicians (people who say / speak to appeal to you with then being above you not your equal / peer)

so on that note, where is the beer.

Umm, the current insurance companies are running just that way right now - putting their own income and bottom line first rather than their customers. No company or agency runs perfectly but I still think that having for-profit healthcare is not good.

For most people the taxes would be less than what they pay in insurance now. If you employer pays for you then great but that cost is hurting america's ability to compete in the world economy. To remove that would only help business.

And we have plenty of Americans leaving the US for healthcare because they cannot afford the current prices. We have plenty of doctors leaving the US to practice elsewhere because of the insurance companies and the constant threat of being sued. This also leads to students not considering medicine.

wow, just wow, i'm surprise at how many people here are the greedy type (not a personal attack just and observation)

its amazing to see how many people in North America really dont give a f***en hoots about anyone else in your own country or the world... until other people start to care for others, then the world is still going to go into these slumps of economic troubles, along with alot of other issues
