Default OS Update problem

Please Login to Remove!

I'm trying to update my Os from 4.6 to the newest 5.0, and I can't even get past the deleting the Vendor.xml part... can someone give me some insight? I'm pretty computer savvy, but I can't figure this out

The vendor.xml file won't delete or you can't find it?

Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!

Lets start from the top. Tell us what you have done so far so we don't have to guess.

Did you follow the steps in the yellow sticky at the top of the 9000 section?

Did you install the OS on your PC?

I have downloaded the Desktop manager from blackberrys site, I have downloaded the new 5.0 OS and installed it on my computer, from there I am stumped, I figured out how to update to the newest 4.6 OS, but I can't get the 5.0 to show up... and I believe I've followed it to a T...

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan? Updating to OS v5 is much more difficult without a BlackBerry Data Plan.

If you're using x64 Windows it will be in Programs Files (x86)\Common Files... etc

I do have a data plan, and I'm using the 64 bit version of Vista.

Now that I finally have OS 5.0, It seems I'm stuck in EDGE mode... I have 3G and 2G enabled, but it will not come out of EDGE for anything... is this a glitch in the OS? And the trackball problem seems to have not gone away, I might break the phone open again... and if I can't fix it, I'm gonna phone AT&T and see if I can possibly get a replacement since this is a hardware issue and not something stemming from me dropping it...

OK, EDGE problem fixed after a battery pull, trackball status is I can scroll left, right and down, but not up... should I just try a new factory trackball? I took the phone apart and tried moving every little thing that could be the connector, and it seemed to have given me left as a scrolling option... input?

software upgrade will not help to fix your track ball issue. It can be a hardware issue, visit Blackberry Authorize service center to fix the same..

I figured that, but I wanted to upgrade to rule it out...

New problem, my text message tone won't play. I have it changed to a custom tone, but it always plays a default tone instead. I have it set to ring and vibrate in and out of the holster, and changed all the message ringtones to the same one, but it still won't play it... any ideas?

I figured out what the problem was, I think... I had a custom ringtone set for the people who text me frequently, so I guess that was overriding my main choice... all is fixed now and I'm loving the 5.0!!

Yet another problem... my BeBuzz is asking me to register, but I did so on my old OS, am I going to have to re-purchase it to get my activation code?

Where did you purchase BeBuzz? You will probably have to contact them to get the activation code.

On the BB App world, but now my phone doesn't have it, and since I can't scroll up anymore, I can't get it on my browser... Does anyone have an e-mail for the creator of it?
