First I would like to say the following:

That being said the I will now go over a few ways to keep your battery going longer, when its really needed. Just keep in mind, as much as we can squeeze from the Bold's battery, it will never last as long as your old BB devices, this is mainly from the over powering 3g network. Although you can never match what how much life the older device have you can still do a few things to help the issue:

First lets adjust some settings:
Options>Screen/Keyboard - Adjust your settings to match these:

Brightness: 40
Timeout: 20 Sec.
Auto Dim: Off
LED Coverage: Off
----------------
Key Tone: Off
----------------
Trackball
Audible Roll: Mute
----------------


WiFi: Whenever possible connect to a wifi for your data. This will help your battery life as connection with wifi requuires less battery then the 3g network.


Adjusting these settings will help cut down on energy spent by the battery, making it last much longer. However not long enough. Another thing you can do to help push up the battery life is an OS upgrade. I am currently using the most up to date OS posted in the forum and the OS itself has helped me with battery life. Click on the following link and follow each step word for word and you should have no problem with your upgrade.

And of course in case all of the above is still not enough juice to handle your crackberry addiction, you can always use more ways to charger your phone aside from the one wall charger that comes with the phone.

What's the reasoning behind "Auto Dim: Off"?

I would have switched this on to save more power.

One other approach to consider is a spare battery and external battery charger. I always carry this with me. When my battery gets low, I put in the fully charged battery and re-charge the other battery in the external charger. The external charger takes the same USB plug as the Blackberry - so you only need to carry one cable/charger.

You can get spare batteries and an external charger cheaply on eBay.

It's because its is always running CPU cycles to check to see if the room is at a darkness to auto dim the screen and if so runs a procedure to dim the screen. You cant get much lower then 40 so whats the point in having it check all the time just to dim it to where it set at already. It's like having Bluetooth always on but connecting to nothing its always probing.

Very true, Just like WiFi. I keep WiFi off b/c I never use it. Having it on wold just drain battery.

Thanks for tips Jarrod, will try it and let you know how it goes. I also always leave Wi-Fi off, not only because it drains the battery, but also because it causes the phone to reboot everytime, any of you experience this?

Day two of leaving WiFi turned *on* all day long has yielded very surprising results: battery life is hugely improved.

At both my home and office, I have WiFi but very bad or nonexistent 3G signal. In a couple of days of using the phone with only 3G, my battery was hardly able to make it to mid afternoon.

With WiFi enabled, I'm at 80% at 5 pm.

Even though this seems completely counter intuitive to me, it's definitely working out well.

Left my house at 1pm today with a fully charged battery in my Bold, just go home8pm! Battery is at 20%!!! Only received/sent about 6-7 emails, small hand full of phone calls, and pretty minimal texting today. This is pretty light for me, even on a Saturday! My 8800/8310 would make it through till Monday on a workload like that. Might have to lean towards the Javelin when it drops, 3G is killin me! And yes I have my phone set to the setting on this Thread, see how I fare the next couple of days. Otherwise I luv this thing!

I'm at 36hrs since I installed .185, did a battery pull and fully charged my Bold. Battery left is 40% and available Memory is 49.4Mb.

I'm in a 3G grey spot at home so only use 2G when I'm at home but 3G everywhere else.

I think the biggest batter saver with the above recommendations that people forget to mention here is to leave the phone either in standby mode or in your holster to preserve your battery throughout the day....it definitely helps!!

OS = 4.6.0.167. WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G on. connected to a BES server.
i do not know what there is such a huge variance, but i can get 3 days easy on my Bold. the only guess i have is that i have wifi at home and work. maybe wifi is much better on the battery.
