Default Second Blackberry 9780 and more/same problems

Please Login to Remove!

i returned my first 9780 after a very long battle they finally agreed to replace it....i described all of my problems in a previous thread here i dont know how to find it but if you search you might be able to....

the first 9780 had many problems....i admit this one is better but still having one common/same problem as my previous 9780....

when i scroll quickly to the top of a web page in my browser the cursor/pointer will disappear and the page will scroll very quickly and erratically making it impossible to click on anything....

the only way to correct it is to go to a different tab and then come back again or load a different web page and then come back again....this is VERY FRUSTERATING....

this happens regardless of which software version i use....started happening with the 285 which the phone came with and happens with any other version too....

also my trackpad seems to be loose....if i scroll up and down very quickly and repeatedly i can feel the whole pad moving in its holder and making a clicking noise each time when it hits the side....

i am not impressed with this phone and never had one single problem in 3 years with my previous 8310....i am seriously thinking about just selling this phone and going back to my 8310....

I bought one at the weekend from VF UK and it had a large gap at the RHS of the screen. I took it back and have another one now which came in a red VF UK box rather than the BB box. There was another one in the store in a BB box that had the same problem. This one feels much better put together.

Could you please summarize the problems you have had in bullet points?

I was going to get one of these as my Bold 9000 irritates me when it runs out of memory every other day. The only way to keep it going is to re-boot it which is a pain.

Many thanks

Default When will Bold be BOLD again?

I hope the "new" Bold with its 2.88" touchscreen will bring back the "top of the line" quality that the Bold name was once famous for.

I am hanging on to my old 9000 until they sort some of these quality control problems. Good job I had a look here first.

The only thing I really hate about this phone is how it sucks up and keeps running out of memory every two days. I have to re-boot it (Quickpull scheduled) every day so that it functions efficiently. Other than that its still fine

The cursor problem in the browser is fixed in build .448. But as much as I like OS6 I feel like its a beta product. Its not really ready for primetime yet. The biggest problems is the lack of apps that work with OS6, not the least of which is the PayPal app. Rather ironic since AppWorld relies on PayPal.

problems with my previous 9780....what i can think of right now off the top of my head...

- battery life sucks...half day tops...about two hours....even if i barely use it....i charge the thing full, shut off the phone for the night and when i turn it back on in the morning its down to 80%....wtf??

- keyboard sticks....i cant type one full sentence without it double spacing or double typing a letter

- icons that i move to my "favourites" disappear after i shut the phone off and turn it back on...icons will not stay where i put them....

- turns itself off at random times or in the middle of a call 5-6 times a day

- trackpad scrolls erattically when web browsing and trackpad is loose

- and many more problems i cant think of right now.....

after having a bb 8310 for the past 3 years and loved it....i just automatically assumed i could not go wrong in getting a new bb of any kind....boy was i wrong....the 9780 is a piece of junk do NOT get one !!!!

You might want to amend that to say _your_ 9780 is a POJ. Certainly there are people on this forum who absolutely love the phone. I have the 9700 and it's incredible, so I wouldn't hesitate to get a 9780 if my contract was up and AT&T had it.

sorry buddy but if i had one bad phone i would say its a fluke....two i can not accept....it is a poorly built piece of junk generally speaking....i guess there might be a few good ones out there but that does not compensate for all of the bad ones or problems....it is just unacceptable....and not worth the risk or hassles....i will give my opinion and you can give yours....

I feel insanely lucky after everything I have read on these forums. I finally purchased the 9780 today to replace my 8900 and have had no problems, even though I have been looking for all of the manufacturing defects I've heard about. :knocks on wood to prevent phone from suddenly becoming evil:

Those manufacturing defects you read about...probably represent less than 1-2% of the units sold. I wouldn't worry about it, at all.

I agree with Stevew. You have to remember that most of the posts on this forum will be from folks having problems and getting help, but you don't really hear a lot from the satisfied users and by far they are the vast majority. It's like TV news....if you only go by what they report you would be getting a very skewed view of things.

I love my 9780, I too have the stutter typing and such. I've heard that if your phone happened to be manufactured in Mexico, you're bound to have some issues. Sadly, mine was manufactured there. Looking to get mine replaced. I've done all the updates and such Rogers has gotten me to do, and it still double spaces or multiple letters as I type.

Other than these pains in the a$$, it's a great phone.

Mine had the same problem with the keys being way to sensitive. Within 14 days I called t-mobile for them to tell me it was a new keyboard you will get used to it.......

This will be for sure my last blackberry device after 11 years of this hardware to software crap!

I have no idea if this will help or not!!! Right after Christmas I got a new phone, and started having crazy issues!!! After returning 3 other absolutely crazy phones, I was finally able to get hold of a Blackberry specialist thru my carrier.

Unfortunately, the overly sensitive keys were the least of my problems. I had to delete my speed dial programming. The phone would constantly lock me out (after each and every phone call) and just suddenly go back to the home screen while I was trying to use it. It altogether acted very weird and just plain would not function correctly!!!

Anyway, after I started dealing with the Blackberry specialists, I found out that Blackberry is having issues with the new 5.0 software. So, I was relieved to find out that it wasn't the phone, but the software. If the insurance folks had known, I probably would not have had 3 other phones!!!

I have backed up and wiped this device. Then reloaded my software and right now the phone is working great!!! Believe me, I was so frustrated that I was ready to use a baseball bat on my phone!!!

I was relieved to find out that that Blackberry is working on these issues. Since the new 6.0 OS is not available for my phone, I was told to to be on the watch for updates.

I was also told that if I start experiencing more problems, I may have to go back to the previous software.

As you said, I had no problems with my previous phone, but then I lost it!!! Every replacement phone that I have been sent has acted crazy, crazy, crazy!!! My other phone had the previous version of the software on it.

As for right now my phone is acting wonderfully well!!! I am very pleased!!! And btw, my overly sensitive keys are gone!!! WOW!!!

So, you might consider checking to see if the software could be causing your issues, as well!!!

I hope this will help!!!! Good Luck!!!

not likely....if that was the case then what are the odds in one person (ME) getting two defective phones?....if the percentage was that low as you suggest then that would be like winning the lottery on two consecutive tickets....

I got a 9780 to replace my Torch (got sick of sliding out the keyboard, otherwise, the phone was awesome) and it has been even better than my BOLD 9000. Battery life is an EASY 48hrs of moderate use. I can get three days if I use it lightly. No issues with the keyboard or trackpad.

There are many others with the same experience as myself.

We've had a few defective BB's over the years at the company I work for. Rogers replaced them next-day no questions asked. Never had a bad one twice.

My wife however has had to get a few replacement 8520's. Her first one she got a dead key, the second one would randomly reboot, no matter what OS is on it.

Defects happen.

Also, what was mentioned above about where they are made is true. I've found the ones in made in Ontario tend to be the best assembled. But my opinion might be a tad biased ;)

Hellooo..

I recently replaced my 8310 with 9780 either. There're no problem with the trackpad, battery, or the software. I'm so relieved about that..
But I have a slight problem which is: I can't receive SMS (text messages) after I deleted an application called Bepopup/Berrypopup.
I'm so confuse..what should I do? Is there any body who can help me?
Thank you..
