Default Policy change based on carrier

Please Login to Remove!

I've got 2 policies running on my BES -- one is a tweaked default policy, the other disables attachments. Reason for this was our users were opening attachments in Europe where rates are 5 cents/kb.

At the moment, I manually resend my other policy to the users who are not in North America, but someone needs to notify me first. I'm wondering if there's a way to automate the policy change, based on the user's location or carrier.

We do our best to keep our employees informed and educated, and encourage them to use webmail or their VPN when possible. Clients pay for their usage...

Thanks.

Something tells me that the BES server has no way of knowing what exact carrier the unit is on. What kind of service tho? They can identify iDen, GPRS, Mobitex, CDMA yada yada, but I'm assuming they are all probably on either GRPS/GSM - and when you go across to europe - it's still GSM...

With BES 4.0, it can view the carrier network. I'm sure with some scripting, you could query the database for HomeNetwork values for each user in the SyncDeviceMgmtSummary table. With BlackBerry Resource Kit 4.0 SP3, you could use the -change flag to adjust the IT Policy, although it did not reflect those changes within the GUI on the BES (the user would still show up on the previous policy, so there would be no way of knowing if the policy actually was applied).

Supposedly the latter of that would be resolved in BRK 4.0 SP4, but...

Worth a shot on scripting it though.
