Default What if i were to call Verizon and tell them i'm switching to Sprint?

Please Login to Remove!

has anyone tried this? i've had verizon for 3 years and sprint never ran through my head but now that i have the Curve and i'm paying the $99/mnth for 900 minutes i noticed that Sprint has everything for $99/mnth. Would or could Verizon do anything about me wanting to leave them for a different company? I actually wouldnt leave them in the long run cause Sprint gets horrible service out in my neighborhood.

You can try it, they might care, and transfer you to a retention department.

Leave that last sentance above, out of the conversation.

You can try. I was with nextel a couple years ago and before the end of my contract I threatened to leave because their phones were too expensive to upgrade. It took a couple conversations with people but they gave me 2 blackberry 7100i's for $200 to stay which of course I accepted knowing that I wasn't really going to leave anyway. This was prior to the merger with sprint. It was alot easier to negotiate before the merger.

What you have to prepare for as well is if Verizon says "okay, well sorry you feel that way and it was nice having you as a customer." That of course probably won't happen but I've heard it has.

Most companies now allow you to modify your terms without affecting the length of the contract. Have you asked if Verizon has a program similar to what Sprint's now offering (I think they do, with a few differences)? I'd start there. You might find you can get what you want without threatening to leave.

Just one question. Why would you even consider leaving a carrier that provides you good service for another which provides horrible service? Are you that cheap or are you just trying to leverage a better deal?

What would you do if they say go ahead and leave?

Perhaps things have changed, but generally speaking, Verizon will call your bluff and have your line disconnected before you can say "I was just kidding". They don't play the retentions game.

Yes, but I had a legitimate beef with something on my bill and they took care of it lickety-split. I didn't have to threaten leaving them.

* I did leave them later for an unrelated reason.

Yup, thats mainly why you get less minutes for the same price at big V, you're paying for coverage.

I have Verizon and it is $129.99 for the plan with unlimited minutes and data including BES. It does not include tethering, texts, or navigation. Sprint doesn't include tethering at $99 and you have to pay $20 for BES. So, other than navigation/gps, you only pay $10 more for way better service.

The tethering is $15 on either one and as mentioned above, you can't do MMS on Sprint BB Curve.

How do you get tethering for $15 at Verizon?

I have a $30 internet plan on the phone and when I hooked it up to the laptop I learned that it would be an extra $30 a month to use it that way. I only planned to use it as a backup, but still wasn't happy.

I was told at the Veriszon store that I was correct. To use the phone as a tethered modem is essentially the same as their wireless usb, $60 a month for unlimited.

Tethering + Blackberry = $60 on Verizon

BIS or BES, they adjust the cost of Tethering to make up.

"unlimited" in verizon's world means 5gb. boo.

like a couple others have already said, be ready to jump ship if you threaten to cancel... verizon will cancel you in a heartbeat, especially if you're in the middle of a contract. if you know you get crap reception with sprint in your area, verizon's call center agents know that too and will likely call your bluff unless you're out of contract.

Sprint isn't that bad. The customer service reps ruin it for them. As far as the service, is been great for me at least out here in California. But out of my experience 3 out of 5 times I've dealt with a decent customer service rep. Sprint also has a community forum, like here, where you can post issues and a sprint employee replys back. I actually use that option quite a bit and have issues resolved that way.

"phone as modem" option on sprint is $15 extra with any plan. I've had that for years and its a good service to have verses paying for internet service where its not free. Unfortunatly if you have the $99 unlimited plan it is $15 extra, but worth it verses $60 at verizon, as posted earlier.

Even though carriers are starting to have 5gb caps on data services, I think only the abusers will hear anything about it. If your constantly hitting 5gb every month, then I can see the carrier saying something.

Their retentions department is great though. I guess it would have to be given Sprint's current dilemma. Anyway a friend of mine has Sprint and they wouldn't give him the discount price on a new phone. He got sent to retentions, when he said he was going to leave, they gave him the phone for the subsidized rate. I guess that is the advantage of being on the #3 carrier.

It is really all about coverage in the end. Sprint and TMO are the number 3 and 4 carrier in the market and are being more aggressive with lower rates, etc, to try to build market share. However, their cheap plans are still way more expensive when you have no connection! I tried TMO just to see a couple years ago. No signal at my house, no signal at my office. I gave it back.

Nice. Sounds like you are getting a deal.

I called a couple of times to add on to my account and was repeatedly given the $29.99 + $29.99 for BIS + Tethering.

They told me that with BES (@ $44.99) the price of tethering dropped to $14.99.
