Got My 8700c Unlocked
Please Login to Remove!
I got my unlock code and it is all working great. It worked when I used my T-Mobile SIM. I did not have any other SIM to use, I did call someone who was on Cingular in case the first attempt did not work.
So After I entered the code, I was not able to get on the web right away. I let the unit sit for 10 minutes and still did not work. I turned it off/on then I could see the t-mobile network push all the icons to the desktop of the device.
I was then able to do the email setup, assign the new PIN to my email address and ask the system to update all my service books. I am not sure that was needed but it works.
I have also pulled all the data I wanted off my previous blackberry and put it on the new unit. It seems to be working great.
This is great, since I did this and spent some cash, expect T-mobile to release the 8700 in a few days
Hope the other guys waiting get there setup soon. Thanks to Adam, Jiaaca for all the help.

Anyone that can put up with me is good.
Chain of Events:
Old Blackberry Failing
Shopped the Web, E-Bay, Amazon etc
Emailed GSMPhones about Codes and Phones
Finally just got a BB 8700 Locally for $$$$
Hooked up the charger and then sent off IMEI with my paypal $45
Surfed, Slept, Did lots of other stuff
Wrote Emails, Bugged People, Made some new Friends
Got the Code
Got it to work with my T-Mobile Sim
I had some problem where I could not get on the web. Turned off Device and On which fixed that problem
I had some problem where voice services was not working. Finally I took out the battery and let it sit for 10 minutes. I would get the message Cannot Connect.
When I put the battery back into the device it worked.
Testing out Pin Messages right now.
Anyone use blackberry messdnger?

When you do that, then how do you do this ?
Well, when you've unlocked your 8700c and got it to work with T-Mobile (mail, web and all), what happens with:
* IM. How do you get the T-mobile IM client ?
* O.S. updates. Which will you install ? The T-Mobile one ? Cingular ? Indian one (Bhari ?)

I don't use the T-M IM client because it is still SMS based. I am using Ramble.
OS wise, I have used every single build released for the 8700. Cingular, Rogers, Vodafone, CSL, and now Bharti (so I can have Zen).

Can the 8700 be unlocked and used with Verizon? It seems like Verizon's data plans are the best (but maybe I'm wrong). However, it is possible to get a free 8700 (with bluetooth headset) from buy.com now if you activate a cingular plan, so it depends if the verizon data plan is cheaper in the long run.

Like KonTiki said, no you cannot use it on Verizon because it is a different technology. Also, if you are going by price, T-Mobile is by far the least expensive provider of BlackBerry service, and they provide the most value. In my opinion, they are the best. I have nothing but good things to say about T-Mobile. I have used other carriers in the last 3 years, but I always end up back at T-Mobile.

Yeah, but I'm looking for coverage reliability, and everyone tells me to stay away from T-mobile. This is one of the reasons why people tell you not to get a Sidekick, because T-Mobile's service sucks.

the sidekick is in its own area of suck-e-ness, but i have had tmobile, nextel, and vzw previously and my berrys allways get the best service. and the 8700c does get even better service on tmo than my 7290. not sure why but it does

The Sidekick has issues because of Danger, not T-Mobile.
Danger routes all hiptop/Sidekick connections from all carriers through one data center, thus creating a bottleneck, and a single point of failure.
This is unlike RIM that has many data centers that load share BlackBerry connections.

^^^ Don't know much about Sidekick/Danger, but I've used Nextel, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile, and for me, T-Mobile wins hands-down. For my type of usage, they have the best plan for the buck (1000 anytime minutes, unlimited data, Blackberry, and SMS for only $59/mo) and my coverage has always been great.
FWIW, I'm in the North Dallas area.

Agreed. I wasn't posting that for your benefit.
I was posting for those who base their opinion of the big pink T on the Sidekick/hiptop.

Oh, I know! I was just giving another thumbs-up for T-Mobile. I switched my wife over, and several family members, and they have all been pleased.
But as always, others' mileage may vary!

YOu probably don't want to hear this but there is a reason why a phone is branded. It's branded to the specs on CW network. Unfortunately unlocking only allows you to use 80% of the Blackberry... your lucky if u can txt. You may want to have BB re-flash the software as they are the same but setup for CW customers. I don't know if that will work or not but it's worthe a try.
