I'm trying to connect my new Bb Storm with the Desktop Manager (4.7) on a DELL Laptop with XP and SP3 installed.
Unfortunately all efforts to connect the Blackberry fail.
When connecting the USB cable a new device is detected as "Blackberry", but the automatic driver installation tells that the hardware cannot be installed (neither from Web nor from Desktop Manager CD)
I tried to search the web for drivers - in vain.

Does anybody have the same problem or can help?

I could never get Bluetooth tethering to my Pearl to work with XP w/SP3. I ended up re-installing XP from scratch and only installing SP2, and it works great.

I think there's something very wrong, under the covers, with XP SP3 and BB Desktop Manager.

There is nothing wrong with XP SP3. What I would recommend that you do is uninstall the DM from your PC, do a complete shut down of the PC, restart it and reinstall the DM.

I have also seen situations, particularly on laptops, where some aspect of the motherboard prevents a program form working. My laptop, an MPC T2500, running XP SP3 run the RIM DM perfectly, but I cannot get it to run the software for my Cannon digital camera of PG Desktop. I installed the software for the camera on a desktop and it worked fine. You may have a similar issue on your laptop. If the procedure recommended above does not fix the problem, then this explanation is the likely answer. 73
