Default Blackberry Curve 8900 will not fully reboot

Please Login to Remove!

Last few days, my Blackberry started rebooting by itself. Now it will only reboot 2/3 of the way and then its stuck.

I have removed the SIM and tried rebooting without it. Any ideas what I can do next?

How long have you let it sit there at 2/3? I have seen them take as long as 20-30 minutes at that 2/3 spot sometimes.

Let it go a while longer. The options for wiping the device if it doesn't boot up are drastic in that your data on the device will be lost.

Cheers John. I'll leave it overnight. Although I've not long since backed up and I have most of my data in my old Curve which I am now using!

If you're not concerned with the data then you can wipe it with JL_Cmder and reload the OS.

1. First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.

BlackBerry - Desktop & Device Software Download Sites for BlackBerry users - US

3. Download the OS file from step 1 to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.

4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Also check the following locations for vendor.xml files and delete any instances of the file:

On Windows Vista/7 navigate to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML (Where "YOUR_USER" is your username)

On Windows XP navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML (Where "YOUR_USER" is your username)

5. Use BBSAK from BBSAK.org or JL_Cmder and wipe the device (after doing a complete backup) then after you get the error 507 (no OS installed) then proceed to next step.

6. Plug in BlackBerry and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

It's really not as complicated as it sounds.

Can't believe this. It has finished rebooting. Taken about 2 hours!

By chance, you didn't do an update of BBM lately, did you?

I have suspected bbm causing this issue. I used to have a similar problem on my 9810 where it would take a good 20 minutes there. Then it just stopped. However, there was a bbm update (can't remember if it was official or a betazone update) that seems to have brought the issue back, though not as bad as before. It hangs there sometimes for a minute now when it hadn't done it in quite some time.

Keep this thread update on if it continues and if/when it stops.
