Signature Limits...?
Please Login to Remove!
Guess, can you increase the signature limitations for this forum? I was going to add a link to the "Posting and You" PSA flash movie, but I can only add one sentence to my signature (very fitting, don't you think... hehe). 255 characters just isn't enough (maybe make it 510 or so...) :(

...as for the people who read the forum on their BBs, shouldn't they be using the WAP site (it doesn't have sigs enabled, it seems)...? if they're using the PHP/HTML-enabled site, then i'd say there were a lot more things on the forum other than signatures that would take up load times, imo.
also, can you add my avatar to the gallery?

hopefully when phpBB 2.2 comes out, the code will be a little more clean than it is in its current 2.0.x state, which can and will possibly help with loads. depending on the server that Guess has this site on, as well as the connection, it should be more than able to handle a few thousand viewers at any given time period. i am on some websites with poor implementation of built-in forum caching that cause it to absolutely crawl during peak periods (but hey, they're saving bandwidth; of course, their server is a POS too), but i've also seen default vBulletin 3.0.3 installations that run beautifully with a thousand person load.
...of course, this is all based on my own experience

Has nothing to do with the php, we have over 10,000 users on our paintball forum using the same php and no lag. This place has only 1,000 people and there are times during the day that it will not even load the page. I would say it is your hosting company.

the load here is a bit over 100 at any given time, for a max (for now). i HIGHLY doubt your paintball community has ever had near 10,000 people.
as for the PHP, it could definitely be the coding and how it relays back to the mysql database (and then the layout of the database itself). outside of that, it would either be bandwidth available or server hardware.
*edit: a few of the PB forums you are a member of have had, at max, 2,000 members at one time (PBNation) and 200 members at one time (P-F.com).

The site is currently hosted on a dedicated machine with several other forums on it (some of them quite large)
If BBforums ever gets bigger, it will be moved to a dedicated machine, all for itself.

I don't read the wap site simple cause this one looks better and is easier to navigate on my BB. I just turn images off on HTML pages and it loads fine. Little slow (the BB), but nonetheless, but still functionable.

How come I can't put my PIN in HTML in my signature and make it a point and click rather than a cut and paste? Posting rules say HTML is tunred off??

because HTML is turned off in signatures. Prevents unwanted spam from users posting links to websites that might not be allowed due to advertising policies.

.....Though now are those people who have their Pins in HTML priviledged, trusted or did they find some other way around the rule? I talked to one woman trying to find out how she put her Pin in blue and she said she just typed it in so that sort of eliminates her from the afore mentioned elite groups...what gives?

use BB code if you want to link something. for obvious security reasons, 95% of all internet forums disable HTML, in posts, in signatures, in anything. BB code was designed as a safe conversion for basic HTML functionality. there are no privaledged users who have the ability to post HTML.

.....but why are some pins in HTML and some not....if you scroll through the members list or those members looking for messenger buddies....some pins are in blue and you can click and send rather than cut and paste....

in that case, it has NOTHING to do with this forum and everything to do with how the BlackBerry Browser is parsing the content of a webpage.
