Question Problem with State Database

Please Login to Remove!

I recently "inherited" responsibility for our BlackBerry devices and our BlackBerry Enterprise Server (2.2), so I'm a "newbie".

I have a slew of these messages in my Event Log:

08/01/2005 07:50:26 PM Cannot open state database for user Jim Smith/MATRIX (File does not exist 0x0103)
08/01/2005 07:50:55 PM Cannot open state database for user Jim Smith/MATRIX (File does not exist 0x0103)
08/01/2005 07:51:19 PM Unable to open stats document for user Jim Smith/MATRIX (Document has been deleted 0x0225)
08/01/2005 07:51:29 PM Cannot open state database for user Jim Smith/MATRIX (File does not exist 0x0103)

What does this all mean? Using BES with Lotus Notes. BlackBerry model 7290.

Thanks in advance for any/all replies!

Support - Unable to open or validate the profiles database (File does not exist 0x0103)
Last Updated: 27 January 2003
Article Number: KB-02117

Summary
This article applies to the following:

Component: BlackBerry Enterprise Server
Handheld: Not Applicable
Software Version: 2.0
Email Integration: Not Applicable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem
For BlackBerry™ Enterprise Server version 2.0 and higher for Lotus™ Domino®..

An error message is displayed in the Domino console after installing and starting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server:

Unable to open or validate the profiles database (File does not exist 0x0103)

Cannot be initialized. Must terminate

Errors may result upon the start-up of the BlackBerry Task (nbes.exe).

Cause:

When the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software is installed on the Lotus Domino server, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software relies on the Lotus Domino registry keys in order to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server templates, BlackBerry task, and any Dynamic Link Libraries (.dll). The registry keys that BlackBerry Enterprise Server relies on are located in the following folders:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Domino\Data

Note: The value data of each entry must be the same for both the Domino and Data folders.

Following the installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the Domino server is started. The BlackBerry Task attempts to create the Blackberry Outgoing Queue database and the BlackBerry Profiles Database as per the templates that were placed in the DataPath specified by the Lotus registry keys. However, the server encounters a problem. According to the Notes.ini file, the DataPath (by default) is Directory=C:\Lotus\Domino\Data

Resolution:

1. Ensure the DataPath specified in your Domino server's Notes.ini file (Directory=C:\Lotus\Domino\Data), is the same as the data path specified in both folders of the Lotus registry keys.

2. Uninstall the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino

3. Restart the computer

4. Re-install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Domino

Or

Verify permissions in the Server document for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server:

Security tab:

In Only allow server access to users listed in this Directory field, ensure that No is selected or no specific entries are populated.

In the Create new databases field, ensure that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is listed. If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server belongs to a Lotus group, such as, Local Domain servers Group, ensure that the group is listed here.

In the Create replica database field, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server either has to be explicitly listed or the group name that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server belongs to is listed.

span style='mso-list: Ignore'w Ports tab:

Select Notes Network Ports, the TCPIP port must have the same Notes Network as the mail server and the Net address field has either the HostName or IP address of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server specified correctly.

If all the above does not resolve the issue check the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Lotus/Domino

Verify the Path and DataPath keys are entered correctly.

This error message can be generated if the Lotus Domino data resides on one partition of the hard drive [DataPath] (For example, D and the source files for Domino [Path] are installed on a separate partition (For example, C:\). But if the above keys do not reflect this, they will have to be manually altered to point to the correct partition.

Support - Could not create user state database (File does not exist)
Last Updated: September 10, 2004
Article Number: KB-03273

Summary

This article applies to the following:

BlackBerry Enterprise Sever™ versions 2.2 all Service Packs
Integration with IBM® Lotus® Domino®
Adding a user

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem
A BlackBerry® state database is not created when a new user account is added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server using the BlackBerry Server Manager.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server debug log displays the following entries:

[40177] (08/10 12:47:09):{0xDE8} BBProfile document changes for Account 906 (user CN=User Name/O=Company)

[30314] (08/10 12:47:09):{0xDE8} Trying to initialize user "CN=User Name/O=Company" with PIN "" (noteID:906)

[40086] (08/10 12:47:09):{0xDE8} Could not create user states database (File does not exist 0x0103)

[30315] (08/10 12:47:09):{0xDE8} Unable to initialize BlackBerry Profiles Account 906 (for CN=User Name/O=Company) - will retry in 5 minutes

Cause
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server cannot find or cannot open the BlackBerry database design template file(s) (.ntf) that create the required databases (.nsf files).

Troubleshooting
Perform the following troubleshooting steps on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server:

Locate the following .ntf files and confirm that they are in the \Lotus\Domino\Data\ folder:
BlackBerry statistics template (BBStats.ntf)
BlackBerry profiles template (BBProfiles.ntf)
BlackBerry state database template (BBSD.ntf)
BlackBerry directory template (BBDir.ntf)
Note: Before you move an .ntf or .nsf file that is in use by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you must shut down the Lotus Domino Server. After you have copied the files, start the Lotus Domino Server and the BES add-in task.

Verify that you are using current and unmodified BlackBerry Enterprise Server templates. Modified templates affect the integrity of the database structure.
Perform the following Domino maintenance tasks on the BlackBerry-related templates (.ntfs):
nfixup
nupdall -R
ncompact -c
See the Domino Administrator Help file for more information on maintenance tasks.

Thanks, camerch! I'll check this all out tomorrow. FYI - our BES server has been up and running for well over a year. Jim's been on it since day 1. These messages just started appearing today. I've never seen them before.....

Hmm, if that doesn't work then if you have purchased Tier I or Tier II support from RIM you can call them, if not then you can try calling your carrier and see if they would transfer you to RIM so you can bypass the support charges, hope all this helps you out..
