Using BIS, I added my gmail account, to sync contacts and made the required companiion changes on the devce (Bold)

The Gmail contact to BB contacts sync works fine, but I noticed this anomaly ( apologies if its arealdy been covered).

On google (as shown in edit mode)
LastName = Smith
FirstName = John

Same contact on BB ( as sshown in edit mode)
LastName = John
FirstName = Smith

Its not a sort issue - the fields are split and reversed.

I thought i would get around this by simply not using first name at all, ie by putting Smith, John as the last name, but it still splits up the name and reverses the order!, ie :

On google (as shown in edit mode)
LastName = Smith, John
FirstName =

Same contact on BB ( as shown in edit mode)
LastName = John
FirstName = Smith

Even getting rid of the comma does not work. Where there is no comma, it does not split, but it still reverses, ie

On google (as shown in edit mode)
LastName = Pager
FirstName =

Same contact on BB ( as sshown in edit mode)
LastName =
FirstName = Pager

Is this a known bug on the BIS sync??

I am on Rogers BIS using a BB Bold.

There is a setting within GMail on your computer for how the address book is organized. Default seems to be First/Last Names. Changing it to Last/First online via pc might do the trick. Also confirm the setting in your BlackBerry's address book options.

I love having Google to act as a real-time backup/sync source for my BlackBerry. That used to be a feature reserved for the BES crowd. Unfortunately, the Google sync of contacts has always been imperfect. When you finally get it ironed out though it's a thing of beauty!

I agree with you on the backups. So many times a contact list has been wiped out, ironically when trying to get a "clean" sync) but I aa backed up several ways, so no worries there.

With the 'cloud concept' I now have BB, Gmail, Outlook, iPad, itouch, and MS Access (for other uses), all in sync, with backups for each, plus the Gmail restore feature). I can make changes anywhere and all the stars align.

My final wrinkle is this name swapping Google BIS issue. The Google settings are all based on Last Name and work great on the screen display, on search and on edit. Same on the BB under the contact options (for gmail), and language text.

Realy strange one.

My GMail account is syncing wirelessly and keeping first/last names straight, unless I have a contact for a company with no first/last name. Somewhere in the sync process I get the first name filled in as the company name. When I look at it in Contacts or on my call log it looks like:

Annoying, but livable.

You can use the "Contact Us" online forms that both RIM and Google have, but they'll just refer you to your carrier's support team.
