Default blackberry on BES - outlook and other questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I just got my first BB, 9780 and i thought that why shouldnt i join the comunity through some starter questions, why not ?

So, here they go:

1. I use it through BES, at work and i have Outlook 2007 for my dekstop emails.

My work procedure is like this: I keep my new emails (mostly task emails with stuff to do) on the Exchange server. After i complete the task, i move the email locally, on local pst. What should happen on the device if i move an email on the local pst? The email should dissappear, no?

2. In the future, if i have to register again my device with the BES server, is it safe to do it without doing a security wipe first?

3. What does reconcile mean really ?

1. If you move anything to a pst nothing will happen to it (no updates or reconciliation) because BES does not have access to the .pst file. BES only have access to whatever is on the Exchange server.

2. You should but not really necessary.

3. Reconcile means it syncs with the Exchange mailbox for deleted messages, updates read/unread marks, foldered messages, etc.

That depends on how your BES is set up.
If BES is enabled for 'Hard Delete Reconciliation' then the message will be removed from the handheld. (This isn't enabled by default... your BES admin would need to turn it on, for all users.)

I believe it will see it as a hard delete and remove it from the device.

Only if Hard Delete Reconciliation is enabled on BES. It's not enabled by default.

Penguin3107, do you think that it should be enabled on the BES server? In my oppinion it should be enabled by default.

If moving a message to a PST file doesn't remove the message from your handheld... then it's not enabled.

Speak to your BES admin. They may have legitimate reasons for not enabling it.
Your and my opinion don't matter.
