Please tell me if this is right:
1. Desktop Manager BACKUP
2. Replace old (2GB) card with new (8GB) card
3. Options/Memory/Menu/Format
4. Desktop Manager RESTORE

Question 1: Will this put everything (Contacts, Appointments, Music, etc.) that was on the old card onto the new card?
Question 2: Is there any benefit/use to me for the SD Card adapter that plugs into my desktop computer?

It is possible I am wrong here, but as far as I know, the only things stored on the SD memory card are files- such as photos, music, etc. The only time I know to use Desktop Manager is to restore internal memory data. But I'm new to this, but that is what I've gathered from all of my research.

What I did today when I swapped the 2G SD card for a new 8G. I removed the SD card from my phone, used the SD adapter to connect to a standard SD card reader... created a new folder called "BlackBerry" on my desktop, and then copied all the contents from the SD card to that folder. Then I swapped that 2G SD card for the new one, and copied that entire BlackBerry folder to the new SD card.

From there I put the new SD card in my phone and turned it on and everything was fine. I didn't even need to format it before copying the files as most SD cards come pre-formatted.

Data for your contacts, calendar, email, SMS, etc is NOT stored on the micro SD card but on the device memory. The micro SD card stores only media files (music, photos, etc.) and documents. DTM backs up ONLY what is on the device, not what is on the SD card.

When I upgraded micro SD cards, I copied all content from the old card to a folder on the computer. Then copy all the items in the folder on the computer back to the new card. This will maintain the directory structure between the two cards as well. I personally think it's better to use an adaptor or card reader with the computer to both read and write to the cards -- it's faster than going through the device.

Right just pop the old sd card into a reader. Pop the new one into your phone.
When you see the phone sd card recognized just do a copy and paste from the card reader to the BB. DM only saves contacts ringtones apps ect.

Or if you don't have a reader

• Turn on Mass Storage Mode support on your BlackBerry
  (options -> Memory -> Mass Storage Mode Support -> On)
• Plug in your BlackBerry to your PC ->
• Open a Windows Explorer window on your PC for your BlackBerry ->
  (Start button -> My Computer -> Double click on whatever drive letter windows assigns to your BlackBerry)
• Copy everything on to a new folder on your PC ->
  (right click on your Desktop -> New -> Folder)
• Swap the card out for the new card in the BlackBerry ->
• Plug the BlackBerry in to your PC again ->
• Open an Explorer window for your BlackBerry again ->
• Copy everything from the folder you created on your PC in to the BlackBerry folder ->
• Done.
