Comments. It is not a standard, and in fact each RFC clearly states that it is not a standard.
This RFC also states that you should only quote as much of the original as is necessary to give a context.
The comments are split on whether top posting is proper etiquette. One commenter suggests that top posting a short reply to a short message is proper. I tend to agree. And since this is the type of communication best handled by a mobile device, perhaps top posting is more appropriate than it might first appear.
In any case, if you still want the ability to interleave your replies, then third party software (possibly) or another device will be necessary.
