I have a Verizon 8830 on BES. Only had this BB about a month. I quickly noticed that after a few days or so of use I'd start getting the never-ending hourglass. A battery pull to reset would make it well for a few days. This weekend the battery pull would no longer make it happy for even a little while.
So I started searching and reading and it appears this is a memory issue. I've read many of the articles about how to optimize memory and have done much but I STILL only have 4mb free. And I've read opinions that you should have 10-12 MB free as a minimum to assure no problems.

I compared to a co-worker's yesterday and she had about 9mb free. And she did have Poynt installed, although not Google Maps. But she hadn't deleted BB Maps either.
Other than deleting the only two 3rd party apps I've got installed, any suggestions on what else to do? What else should I check? My previous BB was an ATT 8820 and never had these sort of problems. It blows my mind why they put so little memory on these devices.
Is there any way to see exactly how much memory each application is using?

The first link is a little more invasive than I'd prefer to get on this work-supplied, work-managed device. Specifically, although I have DM installed, it doesn't have the phone OS installed on my computer and I'd be leery about attempting to find the right OS file to install that matches my phone and make sure I didn't end up inadvertently upgrading my phone OS or somehow messing something up. Basically I'm looking for simpler things I can do with low risk of having to call the IT department to fix it.
As far as the suggestions in the other 2 links, I've either done everything suggested or do not intend to change those particular settings (such as how long messages are kept, which calls are logged, etc.).
Based on my existing configuration, installed applications, database files size, etc., is the 4MB I'm showing free normal??? And BTW, I just did a soft reset this AM and have been keeping the cache cleaned out. And my call logs are currently empty (even though I hate this as I'd prefer to be able to keep this info). WHAT IS USING ALL THE MEMORY????
I had the option of getting an iphone instead of the BB and am beginning to think that would have been the better option.

Old call logs, emails that you don't need, sms messages, all this goes towards your total device memory. All you can do is delete stuff you don't need, unfortunately there's not much else you can do.

While this is all true, those items take up minimal memory when compared to pictures/videos/ringtones/music.

I have the same hourglass problem as the initiator of this thread. My operator's BlackBerry support, asked me to remove all languages that I don't use and BB Maps which does not work in India anyway. I did all of them and got 3MB free (down from 300KB). Now it takes my phone only 12 hours to go to 0 bytes free. Once I do a battery pull and restart it is back to 3MB. Then the phone works fine for another 12 hours. I have around 5MB of email and 1MB all others put together. I got this info from the Database Sizes under Options - Status. Which I think is only a portion of the 47MB (out of 64MB) which is user usable. I have no 3rd party applications and I am on a mail and messenger plan. So no browser also. Only email. Although the messengers are installed, I use them very rarely. My network operator's support finally said you have too many emails, and that's the reason. I am unable to accept this as a solution because it should be the same after I do a battery pull too right. It is only the RAM that is getting freed when I restart the phone and not my old emails.
