Default Opera mini and Google mobile

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everyone,

I've been doing some reading and tried just about everything..still can't get it to work.

I have a 8820 with no data plan...wifi works fine though with BB browser.
I'm trying to install OTA opera mini and google mobile apps and they dont work.

Google sms service won't work as well...yet you don't need a data plan for it to work...so what gives? Does this not work in Canada?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Those apps won't work over wifi only. They require at least a carrier data plan.

Ok...thx for the reply.

What if i borrow a sim card with BB data plan, download the google apps and opera mini and then use my sim card...will it work then...Or is there no possible way for me to get this working without a generic data plan?

I'm guessing you can download them and install them just fine using wifi. However, they won't connect to the internet through the wifi connection without a BB data plan.

Using anything over Wi-Fi will not use your data plan

You will need a "Blackberry" data plan in order to use those apps over wifi. A carrier data plan (using TCP) will only work over the EDGE network and wont' work over wifi.

But Google's website clearly says that Google sms service does not require a data plan...but it still does not work.

What im wondering is; is it not working because i need a data plan to download and install google mobile on my phone...or i simply dont get it...i called fido but they don't know there head from there ass
