Default Trouble to update my OS :-( (5.0.0.461 to 5.0.0.822)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I have a BB8900 with OS 5.0.0.461 and desktop manager 5.0.1 on my Windows XP with SP3.

I am try now to update my OS from 5.0.0.461 to 5.0.0.822, but it does NOT work. I do not know why? I have removed the vendor.xml file from the upload folder of RIM directory. When I run the desktop manager it will give me 2 options:

1. select the current OS (it says: preferred option, do not know why)

or

2. I can indeed select my newest OS 5.0.0.822, but when I go to the next screen shoot, there is nothing to load/upgrade.....

I have entirely removed both OS and desktop manager once, but I still run into this annoying issue. I am lost. Any clue why I cannot load and update my newest OS???

Using uninstall program remove OS 461. Install the 822, delete the vendor file now scroll up and locate the apploader file double click. Installation will start. Please backup first and ensure you have the appropriate OS for 8900. Good Luck

OK, I fixed this issue. If I just use the Desktop Manager of BB and load the application or OS, as said before, will NOT work. However if I use within the RIM folder the appl loader.exe application, it will indeed load the newest OS.

However now I have a new issue! During the upgrade, the update process is not stuck at: connecting the device/RAM image update..... I have been in this status for over 20 minutes. What shall I do? Just disconnect the cable? Any side effect?

Have you even read the stickied thread at the top of the 8900 forum. It gives you detailed instructions on how to do it and about how long it takes.

Worse thing you can do is disconnect the cable.

Always use loader.exe. Never use the DM.

Always have ONE installed software package at a time - never more.

Always make a backup.

Always make sure your device is UNLOCKED (enter the password) before you do an upgrade.

Since you seem to be stuck at a common sticking point, jsut unplug, restart the phone and the comptuer and try again.

As i said above, enter your password before doing the upgrade.

IF the battery pull / comp restart does not work, you will need to connect the device using the /nojvm command lime flag for loader.exe

best of luck

OK, I have been able to install the latest version of the OS 5.0.0.822. However Blackberry App World 1.1.0.35 and Blackberry App Center 5.0.0 does NOT appear on the phone. Why is that??? It is listed in my added applications, but it is NOT visible. I have searched on every folder but it does not look in my phone.... Mmmmm. I have tried to install that application separately but again, it does not appear visible on my phone although it is indeed listed as a component that is part of my phone.....

I am lost!

That happens some times, especially with app world.

Just reinstall app world.

And i have never heard of or used app center; i thought that was for carriers only - like if they wanted to pre load an app or something.

Default BB OS not visible on DM

I have unique problem and despite me best effort i havent been able to find any such topic that could cover my issue.

i hav 9520 with os 5.0.0.497, when i connect my device to DM it shows all my installed apps except for my device OS and default appps that comes along the OS, due to this i off course cant update my OS.
Have any one faced same situation or know its soloution??

In 822, ringtones stopped working for many users myself included. I strongly advise you to stay put and wait for the next stable update.
