Default Reception Question - Chicken, or the Egg?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks - newb's first post so bear with me...

Recently bought a Z30 after drooling for it for some time. One of the key attractions for me was the alleged super-mega-robo new antenna, as I live in the sticks.
I also carry another BB, for work - Curve, I think.
When at home, the Z30 won't pick up the signal at all. The Curve? Always.
Having said that, the two are on different providers.

I'm sure this has been asked before - but which impacts my signal more - the device, or the carrier?
Can't test-drive it, i.e.: swapping out the SIMS - the work one is locked down tight with security.
Cheers from the sticks

different providers have different towers

My wife is on Verizon
I am on AT&T

Most Places we both get service. Some places I cant and she can. Some I can and she cant.

AS Knottyrope said the carrier is the answer. Wierd but my wife is on Verizon and I'm on ATT and I have the same issue he has.
It might help to check the carriers coverage maps. Keep in mind they do fib a bit. I would also ask other users.

I have two devices, and two carriers. The one from big yellow drops calls routinely inside the house. The other one, from big red, hasn't dropped a call in years. Cell signal strength has a lot to do with the carrier.

Appreciate the feedback. I sort of assumed that the carriers shared towers in some way.
That aside, I must say the Z30 battery is amazing. Lasts forever between charges.

I have a BB and a s4 mini. The S4 mini signal can be terrible but I find normally the BB keeps it well. So not sure whether that helps! or not!

The carriers radio frequency has a lot to do with penetration into a building. The battle over frequency is one that the big companys are always into.

I heard on the radio that the UK government was going to try and force network suppliers to share signal, so that people in lower network coverage areas would be able to switch to another supplier whilst there.......don't think the networks in the UK or anywhere else is going to like this!!

in India government has ordered to all the providers that if any user want to change their carrier they have to give him the number he used when with that carrier and user can use that number with any other carrier of he's choice.
