Default GPS drops OS 4.5.0.131 on 8330

Has anyone on the new 4.5.0.131 OS release experienced flaky GPS? I've had the OS installed since the leaked release, and was very happy with it. However, I had the occasion to use my Sprint Navigation the other day, and for the first time in the many times I've used it I experienced satellite drops repeatedly during use. For an approximately 20 mile route, I was missing the satellite signal more than I had it, making my Sprint Nav experience useless. I then tried it again later that night at home, just sitting stationary, and it would drop signal repeatedly. I also found the same issue using BB Maps.

I decided to redownload the OS official release, and reinstalled last night. I then again tried out Sprint Nav this morning for my 42 mile journey to work. It worked better than the other day, but still dropped signal about 3 times. It did recover a little more quickly.

I may go back to 4.3 that Sprint used to support, if I can find it again. I never had a single issue with GPS on that version. Unless my radio has gone flaky, but that would sure be a coincidence in timing.

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc? And yes, both times in installing the 4.5 OS, I did the wipe with JLcmdr first.

Thanks, I do have it installed. However, is that going to make a difference in the GPS signal dropping? Sprint Navigation is voice turn based navigation, which is actually licensed TeleNav. It is a very sweet product for driving to unfamiliar locations. However, the GPS/satellite link up needs to function correctly for it to be of any value.

that is true. it sounds like it is a device/gps chip issue i would try a wipe and re-install and see if that helps. if not, hit up 611 and talk to the reps

Sounds like my thinking is along the same line as yours, as I did a wipe/reload last night. It did make it better, but nowhere near as reliable as it used to be on 4.3. I'm finding some other chatter about GPS complaints on 4.5 out there too, but I'm thinking of going to the local Sprint repair center at lunch and having them give my Curve a look over. It's only 3 months old and never dropped, so I don't want any stinking refurb though.

Sprint store ran diags for about 30 minutes on my device a bit ago. They said the GPS radio is fully functioning with a strong signal, which is really what I expected to hear. Looks like since I prefer GPS to MMS I'm downgrading tonight. :( However, Sprint is logging a ticket with the RIM group they deal with as a possible OS bug here. Thanks for your suggestions though dankarlinski.

I bought the Verizon 8330 last week with 4.5.0.77. Last week I was able to use the "Where I Am" function. Now it does not connect at all. I need to "Start GPS Navigation" to locate satellites. And yes...performance seems lacking as it constantly needs to search for them.

I did a wipe/reinstall Thursday night and tested yesterday. It did not help, and this was with the latest version of Sprint Nav (TeleNav). I did a wipe/install of the original 4.3 supported by Sprint, and GPS works flawlessly again. There is definitely a bug in the new 4.5.0.131 OS. I don't miss HTML because I own Empower, so I now don't have MMS nor Docs To Go. GPS is more important to me. Sprint has logged a bug report with RIM.
