Sounds like you ate too much saurkraut, avacado and BBQ sauce for dinner.

BFEINZIMER:

You got it right. Pair puck, open TN 5.1, repair BT, go to preferences and change GPS from Bluetooth to Internal and save, then go back in and change it back from internal to Bluetooth. That's what I've been doing (or did).

Here's another tip: don't try to do this while you're driving.

Truth is, I gave up on this whole thing. I uninstalled 5.1 and went back to 4.7, which is no great shakes either (though, it works). I'm actually just biding my time until Friday when I get the iPhone.

Not a chance...but good luck!

Seriously, I've posted the extent of my knowledge in this thread. So if that doesn't work, I have no idea what would.

ModeL: Curve
GPS: Garmin 20SM
teleNav 4.7: WORKS!
teleNav 5.1: FAILS

I wish I could motivate them more than yanking my wimpy $10.00 from their hands. They need a good $100,000.00 slap on the face. Anyone know 10,000 teleNav users?

This is only one of the posts in their support forums that we are trying to get answer from but I referenced this forum. I'd love to see them get off their arse and change their minds about only supporting one puck:

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It's been over a month now. Has anyone here actually been told that Telenav is intentionally not working with other gps pucks, or that it is a problem? Their support is worthless, so I'm hoping someone has real info.

Telenev released a new version of the 5.1 software for 8700 and 8300's that has fixed the BT pairing with external GPS problem. Its available on their web site.

It appears that 5.1.0.54 is available for download for the 8100 as well.

http://ota.telenav.com/ota/tn

I'm not going to download now since I'm overseas. (it's almost 1Mb)

I don't see that they have changed the version for the 8800 which I guess I would expect.

If you are on an 8800 that is what I saw. Which model do you have?

Default New code fixes connectivity issues!

Here's the deets:

Model: 8100
OS Version: 4.2.1.96
TN Version: 5.1.0.54
GPS puck: GPT-801
Working: now, yes.

I upgraded from 4.2 to 5.x when it first came out and had exactly the same issues as everyone in this thread (except that when I did the "internal" switch, it still didn't work). Yesterday, I upgraded the OS and the TN versions (at the urgings of TN CS), and lo and behold, it's working again.

It appears, in Pearl at least, that there's a new GPS setting under Advanced Options where there was none before. It indicates the source of the GPS signal. I suspect that this setting, along with the TN upgrade, are what's getting us past the previous issues.

While we've all commented that the change was nefarious (locking out all other GPS puck users except theirs), based on what I'm seeing now, it may very well have been poorly designed code that caused the issue in 5.x code.

The old maxim seems to be appropriate here: "Never attribute to malice what can more easily be attributed to stupidity."
