Default Don't think BlackBerry will work for me!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi I just bought a sim free 7290 today thinking that this would be a great device for me to use. I didn't realise that Blackberry is a service of its own provided by network operators. I am on Orange in the UK and I have a personal account with them, they have told me tonight that I cannot have a blackberry service because I'm not a business customer. So it seems that buying a blackberry was a waste of money because it seems that I can only do voice and SMS. Is there anyway I can do my e-mails and web browising without the Blackberry service itself.

I hope that this will work for me.

Thanks

Damian.

Sorry, no. If you dont have a BlackBerry data plan you can not do email or web browsing.

I believe that smart phones also have a data plan, but its different then the one a BlackBerry uses. I had a BlackBerry the other day that had the wrong data plan and it could surf the web, but no email. I dont know if a carrier would do that for you or not. My example was an accident.

I wanted to go from a smartphone I had an orange spvc600 to the blackberry. With my account I have a gprs data plan, but on the bb screen it says data connection refused. I'm just downloading an orange uogarde to see if that makes a difference as this one is sim free.

WIthout a BlackBerry Data Plan - a BlackBerry Data Plan - you have no data access at all on a BlackBerry. SMS & Voice only. gprs = no data. GPRS = good.

No BlackBerry Data Plan, no data. No hacks, bypasses or other ways to do it.

I find it a little odd that they'd refuse service because you're not a business customer rather a personal customer. You might want to call again and check up on that.

BlackBerry is available to non-business customers by many carriers.

It might be something specific to your carrier...

Hmm, I'm a little confused. I will most likely be buying the blackberry 7130e soon from Verizon. I'm not part of any blackberry server or anything like that. So does this mean I won't be able to use the basic blackberry functions? I thought you could use it for personal use also.

You can. Verizon offers personal plans with a BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service). Don't get confused by this other issue. OP is on Orange in the UK. Verizon is fine.

On verizon you will be able to sign up for a BB data plan and use the BIS, and all the functions of the blackberry.

Hope this helps.
